We recommend that you use aerosol whipped cream for topping pies, cakes or desserts. The product should not be used for cooking.

Are there any recipes in which LAND O LAKES® Fat Free Half & Half does not work well? Back To Top

There are certain cooking or baking recipes in which LAND O LAKES® Fat Free Half & Half does not work well.
  • In candies from a boiled syrup, such as caramel and toffee
  • Baked dishes, such as quiche, casseroles and homemade scalloped potatoes
  • Sauces that do not contain a flour or cornstarch thickener
  • Recipes that contain vinegar, such as cucumber and coleslaw recipes
  • Ice cream recipes that do not contain fat
  • The product cannot be whipped

Is light cream the same as half & half? Back To Top

No, light cream is not the same as half & half. Light cream, sometimes called coffee cream, may contain from 18 to 30% milk fat, but most often contains 20% fat. Traditional half & half contains 10 to 18% milk fat.

What can I do to make my whipping cream whip better? Back To Top

For best results chill the bowl and beaters for 30 minutes in the freezer before whipping the cream. Make sure that the cream is as fresh and cold as possible.

Can I cook and bake with LAND O LAKES® Dairy Ease® Milk? Back To Top

Yes, you can cook and bake using LAND O LAKES® Dairy Ease® Milk in place of milk in recipes.

What is ultrapasteurized whipping cream? Back To Top

Ultrapasteurized whipping cream is the same as regular whipping cream but it has been briefly heated at temperatures up to 300° F to kill microorganisms that cause milk products to sour. This cream has a longer shelf life and when it is whipped takes longer to over whip so it is more forgiving.

When is the best time during whipping to add other ingredients? Back To Top

Additional ingredients such as sugar or vanilla should be added when soft peaks form or toward the end of whipping the cream. If ingredients are added too early the volume of cream whipped is reduced. If ingredients are added too late, or after the whipped cream has reached its peak, the cream may be over-whipped.

Is LAND O LAKES® Dairy Ease® Milk a good source of vitamin D? Back To Top

Yes. LAND O LAKES® Dairy Ease® Lactose Free Milk provides 25% of the Daily Value (DV) of Vitamin D in a single serving. This is the same standard requirement found in traditional milk.

Can I substitute LAND O LAKES® Fat Free Half & Half for Traditional Half & Half? Back To Top

Yes, LAND O LAKES® Fat Free Half & Half can be used in place of Traditional Half & Half in most cooking and baking applications.

Why does my half & half curdle when I add it to my coffee? Back To Top

Sometimes the acid in coffee along with the coffee’s heat may tend to curdle the cream when it is added to coffee if the cream is not fresh. To prevent this from happening, be sure to use fresh cream.

Can I substitute traditional half & half for heavy whipping cream in my dessert recipe? Back To Top

It is best to use the type of cream called for in the recipe. Sometimes half & half may be substituted successfully for whipping cream in sauces, soups, batters, puddings, and fondues although the consistency of the finished product may be thinner or less rich. Half & half should not be substituted for whipping cream in ice creams and other recipes that require a higher amount of milk fat, or for whipping.

My recipe calls for 2 cups of whipped cream. How much whipping cream should I buy? Back To Top

One cup of whipping cream equals 2 cups of whipped cream.

Can I cook and bake with LAND O LAKES® Fat Free Half & Half? Back To Top

Yes, LAND O LAKES® Fat Free Half & Half works well in many recipes. Here are some suggestions for the types of recipes where it works well:
  • In flour/cornstarch thickened sauces, soups and gravies
  • Baked goods such as scones, muffins, cakes and quick breads
  • Uncooked frostings, such as buttercream frosting
  • Cooked custard creams
  • Chocolate sauces and toppings
  • Frozen or ice cream desserts if the recipe contains fat or eggs

What is the shelf life of an opened container of cream? Back To Top

The product should be used within 7 to 10 days of opening or by the date printed on the container -- whichever date comes first.

Can I freeze cream? Back To Top

Freezing is not recommended for cream. Freezing may affect the texture and quality of the cream when thawed. Whipped cream, however, can be frozen. Place dollops of whipped cream on waxed paper and freeze. Thaw at serving time.

Does LAND O LAKES® Dairy Ease® Milk contain gluten? Back To Top

To date, the FDA and USDA have yet to define the term “gluten free.” We define “gluten free” as products that do not contain wheat, barley, oats, rye, or malt, considered sources of gluten proteins. To the best of our knowledge, this product is gluten free.

As with any food product, the best source for nutrient and ingredient information is the Nutrition Facts label on the package. For additional information, the Food Allergy Network and the Gluten Intolerance Group are excellent resources of information related to this topic.

How far in advance of serving time can I whip cream? Back To Top

Ultrapasteurized whipping cream can be whipped up to 4 hours ahead of the serving time. After whipping, cover and refrigerate the whipped cream.

Does cream need to be refrigerated? Back To Top

Yes, keep cream refrigerated in its closed container at 40° F. or lower for up to one week. Ultrapasteurized cream keeps several weeks longer than pasteurized cream, but once opened it should be used within 10 days.

Does LAND O LAKES® Cream contain gluten? Back To Top
