May was an exciting month in the Wahlund home. Both of my boys graduated from their respective schools. My older son, Ryan, graduated from law school and my younger son, Kyle, graduated from college.

My husband is a man of consistency. This is displayed in qualities that I love - like loyalty to his friends and steadfastness in his work ethic. It also surfaces in habits that drive me crazy - like always ordering the same sub, when there are a dozen other delicious sandwiches to try! It's not that he's a picky eater, he just knows what he likes and doesn't want to mess with that.

Even though I was born and raised (and have lived my entire life) in the northern state of Minnesota I have southern roots.  I have grandparents on both sides of my family that are from southern states – West Virginia and Arkansas.  So, as a little girl buttermilk biscuits were regular fare.  Warm from the oven topped with a pat of melting butter and homemade jam they are one of my comfort foods.  Often my mom would invite my grandparents over for Sunday supper.  She would make a big pot of soup and homemade biscuits.  Just writing about this simple yet delicious meal makes me smile (and tear up a little as I realize how much I miss my grandparents).

“Wow,” was the first word out of my mouth after I had my first bite of a Star Spangled Shortcake. What an awesome treat! It’s the perfect combination of salty, sweet, creamy, and crunchy. If you’ve never eaten shortcakes, you are really missing out.
