Portable Crunch for an Afternoon Bike Ride

For Memorial Day weekend, we planned an all-day family biking outing along the river road and to a favorite café for lunch. We always carry water and some simple snacks like energy bars or dried fruit, but for something special I decided to make Sweet & Savory Snack Mix.

French Toast on the Go

When I think about French toast, I can picture myself as a grade-school-aged kid in my aunt and uncle’s crazy-busy kitchen. I’m wearing my PJ’s, swinging my feet from the bench seat at their kitchen table, and there is breakfast chaos all around me.

Planning a Bridal Shower Luncheon

Hosting a bridal shower can seem overwhelming. But with a simple, easy-to-prepare menu, the task becomes much less daunting. The menu below is full of foolproof and delicious recipes—many of which can be prepared ahead of time or easily doubled to accommodate more guests.

The

Rhubarb first appeared in North America in the late 1700s when it was introduced by a Maine gardener who obtained the seed from Europe. Within 25 years, it had become so popular that it was a regular offering at produce markets.

Master the Art of Grilling

Whether you’re an experienced chef or a cooking newbie, grilling or barbecuing perfectly cooked meat takes knowledge and practice. And as we’ve all experienced, even the so-called “Grill Master” gets it wrong from time to time. Let’s start with the basics.

Your idea to keep the meal simple is very wise. After the wedding feast, an uncomplicated yet satisfying meal will be welcome. And, it will keep the focus where it should be – on the newlyweds!

Use a side table or buffet and let guests help themselves to a bountiful Cheese & Fruit Platter plus a deliciously light Wild Rice & Pepper Jack Salad. Add bowls of seasonal wash-and-serve fruits, like blueberries, strawberries or raspberries and your table will decorate itself. And, as you’re still celebrating, we recommend not skipping the dessert! These delightful Tangy Lemon Bars are easy to prepare, and will add a festive touch to your buffet.

Have a wonderful wedding celebration!

Elements of a Taco Bar

by Kim May 04, 2011
Elements of a Taco Bar

Whether you are serving your family of 4 or entertaining 100 people, a taco bar can be a guaranteed hit. There are 3 basic components of a taco bar – the meat, the condiments and something to hold it all together. Within each of those components, the possibilities can seem endless.

Congratulations to you and your son, — achieving Eagle Scout status is quite an honor! For your celebration, we pulled together three simple, festive recipes we think will work wonderfully. All can be made ahead, look attractive on a buffet and will satisfy all ages. And as a bonus, everything can be eaten with fingers. — no forks required!

Start with Turkey & Cheese Mini-Wraps, loaded with delicious ingredients and sliced into decorative swirls, so everyone can go back for seconds (and thirds). For dessert, offer Triple Chocolate Temptations — rich, brownie-like cookies no one can resist, and classic Celebration Cupcakes — fabulous no matter how you decorate them. Have a wonderful time.

Planting Herbs

Growing your own herbs lets you add fresh flavor to recipes whenever you want. And, why not? Herbs are easy to grow, add wonderful flavor to foods and drinks, and can be frozen so you can enjoy them all year long.

Dinner! Invite her over as usual, but make this evening extra special. Greet her with a festive appetizer — Pineapple, Ham & Swiss Appetizers are a delicious and easy way to begin. Be sure to offer her a favorite beverage, and play music she loves.

Let her sit and relax while you do the work! Prepare a spicy-sweet entrée, Asian Shrimp with Pea Pods & Bell Peppers, and serve it sizzling warm on steamed rice. Prep all the vegetables and ingredients, and cook the rice before she arrives. With everything chopped and ready, cooking takes less than 10 minutes, and the delightful aromas and freshness of this dish will add to the atmosphere of fun.

As the evening winds down, brew some decaf coffee and unveil a simple yet stunning Café Latte Tart. She’ll know she raised you right!
