When birthdays roll around in the Wahlund family the honoree gets to select their birthday treat. Years ago when my boys were young, their dad decided he wanted pie instead of cake for his birthday celebrations.

I always know spring is near when I start hearing radio and TV commercials advertising fish sandwiches. I love fish sandwiches and the commercials make them sound so good, especially when I’m driving and hungry.

You know the drill: It’s six o’clock and you just got home from work (school, kids’ basketball practice, volunteering, the list goes on). You’re tired, hungry and can’t stand another night of leftovers.

We live near downtown and every year on March 17th the city holds a parade to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The parade is always on the 17th, even if it’s mid-week, and Irish families and fun-seekers from all over take off school and work to celebrate this special day.

Let’s face it: I’m not Irish in the least bit. I’m pretty much as Scandinavian as they come. But…that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. I’ll wear my green come Saturday.

Emily has been my dear friend for ages. We have been through boy drama together, health challenges and more. We were in each other’s weddings. She is the kind of person that you just want to spend time with because she is kind, funny, thoughtful, and brings out the best in you.

I live in a house full of boys. This is a therapeutic rant for me today as my husband, Adam, has declared next Sunday a "man holiday." Is anyone else a college basketball fan? March 11 is "Selection Sunday," when the brackets are picked to pave the road for the college Final Four basketball tournament.
