Q I am making plans for my annual Halloween party for both kids and adults. Everyone expects the unexpected, and I need some new ideas. Please help.

What a great question. Throwing a party that is sophisticated enough for adults and fun enough for kids can be a challenge — especially when you’ve got a reputation as a great host and have set the bar high already, as it sounds like you have.

For Halloween, presentation is everything. This is your chance to “play with your food,” using spooky shapes and funny names. Check out our Cheesy Witch Hat — it’s a zingy cream cheese dip with pimentos, but instead of rolling it into a ball, we shaped it into a pointed hat.

For something more substantial, how about hearty sandwiches that look like slithering Snakes in the Grass. They’re more goofy than spooky and sure to make guests smile.

Sweet and salty Werewolf Fingers will finish a Halloween meal on just the right playful note. And, of course, you’ve got to have a memorable drink. Witches' Brew Pumpkin Bowl is sweet, tangy and infused with fall spices like cinnamon, cloves and allspice.

I’m sure your party will be a success. Check back in and let us know how it goes!

Kids’ parties demands entertainment. You must have lots of games andfun things to do. You can keep the scary quotient a little on the downside to not let small kids get the fright of their life. After all, you’re throwing a party to make the kids happy, not scare them out of their wits. Bobbing for apples is a favorite activity since the kids can eat those apples, too.
