Ingredients

Doughnuts

1 cup sugar

1 1/2 cups milk

2/3 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, cut into pieces

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

3 (1/4-ounce) packages active dry yeast

1/2 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)

7 to 8 cups all-purpose flour

4 large Land O Lakes® Eggs

Vegetable oil

Glaze

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 cup water

2 tablespoons honey

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Combine sugar, milk, butter and salt in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat 3-4 minutes until butter melts. Cool to warm (105°F to 115°F).

  2. STEP 2

    Dissolve yeast in warm water in bowl. Add cooled milk mixture, 4 cups flour and eggs. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until moistened. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed. Stir in enough remaining flour to form soft dough.

  3. STEP 3

    Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead 5 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Place into greased bowl; turn greased-side up. Cover; let rise in warm place 60-90 minutes or until double in size. (Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.)

  4. STEP 4

    Punch down dough; divide in half. Roll each half to 1/2-inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut out doughnuts with lightly floured 3-inch doughnut cutter. Place doughnuts on greased baking sheets. Cover; let rise 30-45 minutes or until double in size.

  5. STEP 5

    Heat 3 inches oil in deep fat fryer or Dutch oven to 375°F.

  6. STEP 6

    Place, 3 doughnuts at a time, into hot oil. Fry 30-45 seconds per side or until golden brown. Drain well on paper towels.

  7. STEP 7

    Stir together all glaze ingredients in small bowl. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze; place onto cooling rack to set. Serve warm.

Tip #1

Variations:
Maple Glazed Doughnuts:Omit Glaze in recipe.Stir together 2 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup pure maple syrup or maple-flavored syrup and 1 teaspoon vanilla in small bowl. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze; place onto cooling rack to set. Serve warm.

Powdered Sugar Glazed Doughnuts:Omit Glaze in recipe.Stir together 2 cups powdered sugar and 4 to 5 tablespoons water in small bowl. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze; place onto cooling rack to set. Serve warm.

Tip #2

To reheat doughnuts in microwave, microwave 1 doughnut at a time on HIGH (100% power) for 5 to 6 seconds.

To reheat doughnuts, microwave, 1 doughnut at a time, 5-6 seconds.
