Doughnut making is easier than you think -- try these this weekend!
Combine sugar, milk, butter and salt in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat until butter melts (3 to 4 minutes). Cool to warm (105°F. to 115°F.).
Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl. Add cooled milk mixture,
flour and eggs. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until moistened. Increase speed to medium; beat 3 minutes. Stir in enough remaining flour to form soft dough. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic (about 5 minutes). Place into greased bowl; turn greased-side up. Cover; let rise in warm place until double in size (1 to 1 1/2 hours). (Dough is ready if indentation remains when touched.)
Punch down dough; divide in half. Roll each half to 1/2-inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut out doughnuts with lightly floured 3-inch doughnut cutter. Place doughnuts on greased baking sheets. Cover; let rise until double in size (30 to 45 minutes).
Heat 3 inches oil in deep fat fryer or Dutch oven to 375°F.
Place 3 doughnuts, at a time, into hot oil. Fry until golden brown (30 to 45 seconds per side). Drain well on paper towels. Stir together all glaze ingredients in small bowl. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze; place onto cooling rack to set. Serve warm.
Dietary Fiber: 1g
It is NOT as easy as stated. They are delicious, but require some work. You must set aside at least 3 hours. So, don't get up in the morning and think you are going to have this done in a jiffy for breakfast. They are worth the work though. I cut the recipe in half and got about 24 donuts.
