Ham, Mac & Cheese Soup

A ham and cheese soup for all macaroni and cheese fans!

1 1/2 cups uncooked dried small macaroni shells
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon Dijon-style mustard
1 (14-ounce) can chicken broth
11 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American, coarsely chopped
1 cup finely diced ham
Salt, as desired
Pepper, as desired


Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain; set aside.

Melt butter in 3-quart saucepan until sizzling; stir in flour and mustard. Add broth and half & half. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, 4-5 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil.

Reduce heat to low; stir in cheese until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni and ham. Cook 4-5 minutes or until heated through. Salt and pepper to taste.

I added more cheese - shredded Mac n cheese blend - everyone raved about this thick dish!
I made this with left over ham from Christmas. It was a hit especially with my oldest! Next time I will make more soup base and add more ham.
Very easy and absolutely DELICIOUS!
I made this recipe last night; it was very tasty and so easy! I didn't have any Dijon Mustard, so I used 1 tsp of ground mustard, added it with the flour.
I have made this recipe so many times that I don't remember when I first tried it. No one I have served this to has ever been disappointed and it's constantly requested by friends and family. This is the best comfort food ever and great for a chilly autumn meal anytime day or night.
Made a double batch for 3 people. Grandson was eating all evening. Easy to make and no
complaints. Very good.
I was shocked at just HOW good it really was. I added frozen peas & carrots into the bowls to help cool the soup, and then of course to get veggies in. That was yum too! This was really easy to make, and my daughter just loved it. Its going into the soup rotation.

I'm not very good at mac & cheese but this turned out for me. Very tasty with the extra kick of the mustard. But it's a soup so it will live up to it's name!
I made this for my husband and son (without the Dijon mustard) the first time with skim milk and low-fat colby jack cheese. The second time I used whole milk and regular american cheese. Three days later I used the whole milk and regular cheese receipe for a ladies group. Each time, it has been a rousing success. I have luncheon guests again tomorrow and will be serving it again. So far, I have yet to have any leftovers.

Very easy and quick fix for the grandchildren who could live on mac and cheese! Faster than making several grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for 5 and everyone can serve themselves. Thanks so much.
