Chili Burger With Sweet Potato Fries

Chili sauce is the secret ingredient in these grilled burgers.

2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter, melted
2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch strips
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper


1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons chili sauce
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Deli American
4 hamburger buns, if desired


Heat oven to 425°F. Grease 15x10x1-inch baking pan; set aside.

Place melted butter into bowl; add sweet potatoes. Toss to coat. Add all remaining fries ingredients; toss to coat sweet potatoes. Arrange sweet potatoes in single layer on prepared pan. Bake 20-25 minutes, turning sweet potatoes once, until golden brown.

Heat gas grill on medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white.

Combine ground beef, onion, chili sauce, pepper and salt in bowl; mix well. Form mixture into 4 (4-inch) patties.

Place patties onto grill. Grill, turning once, 15-18 minutes or until internal temperature reaches at least 160°F and meat is no longer pink in center.

Top each burger with 1 slice cheese. Serve on hamburger buns, if desired. 

Recipe Tip

- Sweet potato flesh can range from yellow to deep orange. The orange-fleshed varieties are generally sweeter and include the Garnet, Jewel and Beauregard varieties. Sweet potatoes are high in vitamins A and C and are a good source of potassium and fiber.

- Freeze burgers and grill later. Prepare burger mixture as directed; form into patties. Place patties in freezer container; freeze up to 3 months. To thaw, place in refrigerator 24 hours or until thawed. Prepared Sweet Potato Fries as directed. Heat gas grill on medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white. Grill patties as directed above. Top each burger with 1 slice cheese. Serve on hamburger buns, if desired.
