Butter cake recipe reminiscent of the 1-2-3-4 cake that Grandma may have baked. The numbers refer to ingredient amounts.
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt in bowl. Set aside.
Place sugar and 1 cup butter in another bowl; beat at medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally, until creamy. Add eggs, 2 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with 1 cup milk, beating at low speed after each addition.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 45-55 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
Place 1/2 cup butter and cooled chocolate in bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternately with 1/4 cup milk and 2 teaspoons vanilla and scraping bowl occasionally, until well mixed. Frost cooled cake. Sprinkle with decorator sprinkles, if desired.

It had a decadent buttery texture; one that is reminiscent of sweet aromas in the kitchen. Love it, thanks for sharing. Dense and moist, voila!
It was moist and came out well, but it lacked flavor. I didn't taste anything but sugar really.
The cake was good but a little to much sugar for my taste. Next time I will use only a cup and a half.
Hi, I've already tried the recipe. However, I had a problem preparing the frosting. Does it need to be heated? because mine has undissolved sugars and it was not as dark in colour as yours. What is the problem here, may I ask? Because I've added more chocolate than needed actually. But it still does not achieve the dark colour of the frosting.
I love this recipe. definitely the best butter cake recipe I've ever tried. and definitely better than cake mix.

No, this was an easy recipe and very good, moist and full of flavor.
I liked this cake, however I like my cake to be a bit more light in texture. I think I will try something else next time.

This is one of my favorite butter cake recipes! I love it and crave it. I frost it with the luscious buttercream frosting on this site. Sooooo yummy!
Great Recipe, just not as moist as I had hoped for. Great for a strawberry shortcake.
I made this recipe a little over a year ago, and I simply loved it. Today is my grandaughters birthday and I want her to enjoy this cake with the family. This cake is delicious!

This year, my grandson Clark is 3 years old, so I wanted to make some cookies that he would love to eat and would find to be fun, too. These adorable Powdered Sugar Snowmen Cookies are just the ticket.
Chocolate’s complex flavor brings out the sweetness and tanginess of fruit, mellows the heat of peppers, and comes alive when introduced to a little bit of salt. The real question should be, “What can’t you dip in chocolate?” More ...
