Classic Alfredo Sauce

A classic pasta sauce that is very easy to prepare!

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
8 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese


Combine all ingredients except Parmesan cheese and bacon in 1-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, 2-3 minutes or until butter is melted. Stir in bacon; remove from heat.  Stir in cheese.

Stir sauce into hot cooked fettuccine, spaghetti, linguine or vermicelli.

So easy and so delicious. Nutmeg is the secret ingredient.
i made this recipe for the first time tonight and while the flavor was good, the sauce never thickened and i had to eat it out of a bowl. i followed the recipe exactly and dont understand what went wrong.
I have to give this one 5-stars because it's so easy and it tastes great! I still like the traditional alfredo sauce, which is wonderful, but this recipe is SO easy and SO quick and still tastes really good. Besides that, it's 100 times better than the stuff that comes from the jar!

I didn't use bacon, because I don't think that would be popular with the family and I did add garlic powder to taste. I do highly recommend garlic--fresh or powder, whatever you have on hand. EVERYTHING is better with a little garlic :-)
Was great & very quick! Only used 1.5 slices of bacon & a little less cheese but it turned out really tasty. Also added a 1/4 tsp garlic powder & used garlic oil in the pasta water. Thanks for the recipe!
I tried this recipe Sunday. It is very simle but you don't mention how much pasta to use for this amount of sauce. Also the recommended amount is far too much as it is too salty and thickens the sauce.

Thanks for your comment. This recipe is just for the sauce and you can use whatever pasta shape you like. The salt level could be adjusted by using a little less Parmesan cheese.

What a great recipe--I used fat-free half and half. So simple, so elegant, so healthy. I couldn't believe how good the fat free was. My husband didn't know that he was eating a low fat version!
I used Fat Free 1/2 & 1/2 and 1/8 cup of butter, 1 1/2 cups of cheese. It was great and far less fat too!!

This is your classic Alfredo. Traditionally one would use heavy cream or Normandy cream; however it's been common practice to use ½ & ½ for a great taste with far fewer calories, and less fat. Restaurants do this all the time, and when you use a premium brand such as this, it's no different than what you put into your coffee-perfection!
Great Alfredo sauce that is so simple! You can make it so many ways! I like to substitute a spicy red-pepper based cajun seasoning for the nutmeg and put in fresh parsley instead of bacon!
I use this recipe anytime I need alfredo sauce. It's simple and delicious.
