These almond chocolate chip bars are a cross between a cookie and a slice of coffeecake with a hint of Scandinavian tradition.
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 8-inch square baking pan; set aside.
Combine sugar, 1/2 cup butter and almond extract in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add egg; mix well. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips.
Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake 25-30 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Cool completely.
Combine powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon butter and milk in bowl; mix well. Spread over cooled bars. Sprinkle with almonds; press lightly into glaze.

These are amazing! I wouldn't change a thing about the recipe. Just perfect.
I've been making this recipe for quite a while now and always get a great response with it. I definitely would give it a five star rating. I also freeze them but only for about 2 weeks before serving.
Very easy to make. The smell is amazing and the taste is even better.
Delicious! I love white chocolate, though, so I used a full cup of white chocolate chips instead of half a cup of semi-sweets, which made them sinfully rich. While it might seem skimpy to cut an 8x8 pan of bars into 25 pieces, they really don't need to be any bigger than that.
When I took this to work, people almost drooled! The almond flavoring makes this bar special. I had the email the recipe to many people.
Co-workers and family raved about the light but delicious taste of these easy-to-make bars.
