These lemon cookies combine refreshing lemon with aromatic cloves, creating a memorable treat.
Combine 3/4 cup butter and 3/4 cup powdered sugar in bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy. Add egg and 1/2 teaspoon lemon flavoring; continue beating until combined. Add flour, cloves and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.
Divide dough in half; shape each into 8-inch log. Wrap each in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or until firm.
Heat oven to 350°F.
Cut logs into 1/4-inch slices with sharp knife. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle half of cookies with coarse grain sugar. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack. Cool completely.
Combine all filling ingredients in bowl, adding enough half & half for desired spreading consistency. Beat at low speed until well mixed.
Spread about 1 teaspoon filling onto bottom of each cookie without sugar. Top with remaining cookies, sugar-side up.

This is by far my absolute favorite cookie! The combination of flavors is outstanding. It is a definate addition to my annual christmas cookie trays.
Tried these for Easter instead of the lemon meltaways which I usually make....they were excellent, the addition of cloves gave such a nice boost to the flavor. I also added some lemon zest to the filling as I like real lemony flavor. These are my new favorite lemon cookie, will definitely be making these again.
very delicate and good, will make again, next time I will slice them thinner, mine were a bit too thick and I may add a little bit more cloves. Made these again and they just get better and better - the filling is delicious, I dust with powdered sugar
I made these cookies as a lemon option for our Thanksgiving. My husband loved them! Sadly I forgot to 1/2 the recipe, so I ended up with way more cookies than we could consume, but he took them to work (his coworkers loved them!) and I took the rest to my job (my coworkers loved them!) The hint of clove keep the lemon from being overpowering. This is certainly a recipe I will keep and make again! rlr
