Weekend guests? Make this scrumptious French toast with brown sugar sauce. It’s sweet and easy!
Slice bread into 12 (1-inch thick) slices. Arrange bread slices in bottom of greased 13x9-inch baking dish; set aside.
Combine all remaining French toast ingredients in bowl. Beat at low speed until well mixed. Pour mixture over bread, covering all bread surfaces. Cover; refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.
Heat oven to 350°F.
Combine all sauce ingredients
almonds in small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 3-4 minutes or until butter is melted. Continue cooking until mixture comes to a boil.
Reduce heat to low;
cook, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Remove from heat.
Sprinkle bread with almonds. Pour half of sauce mixture over bread mixture in pan. Bake, uncovered, 45-55 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand 5 minutes.
Heat remaining sauce, just before serving; pour over French toast. Serve French toast warm with maple syrup, if desired.

I'm always looking for make ahead-especially for mornings,and this was quick to do and delicious. We didn't have maple syrup on hand so I doubled the sauce. We all love caramelly type sauces and this was more of a vanilla caramel sauce;which was more to our liking then just vanilla. It was the perfect custard and I highly recommend using french bread and cutting it like the recipe recommends.I've use Texas toast bread before but never again.
Quick and easy to prepare. The recipe states bake 35 minutes but it takes close to an hour or it will be soggy in the middle. The leftovers are just as good the second day.

As autumn rolls around, I love making apple desserts. I’ve written a couple of times about my hunt for the best apple crisp recipe and how I’m always looking for ways to utilize the crop of apples in our yard. While I do have a couple of stand-by recipes, it’s always nice to try a new spin.
