1 1/4 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast halves or turkey, cut into 1-inch pieces
8 small new red potatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 large (1 cup) onion, chopped
1 (16-ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables
2 (14-ounce) cans chicken broth
1 1/2 teaspoons dried marjoram leaves
2 teaspoons garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 (8-ounce) container onion and chive-flavored cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter
1/2 cup dried bread crumbs

Combine all chowder ingredients except half & half, cornstarch and cream cheese in 5-quart slow cooker. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 6-8 hours, or High heat setting 4-5 hours or until potatoes are tender.

During last cooking hour, combine half & half and cornstarch in bowl until smooth; gradually stir into chicken mixture. Cover; cook on High heat setting until mixture is thickened.

Melt butter in 1-quart saucepan until sizzling; add bread crumbs. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, 4-5 minutes or until golden brown. Set aside.

Just before serving, stir cream cheese into chowder until melted. Ladle into individual serving bowls.  Sprinkle each serving with 1 tablespoon topping.

Recipe Tip

- To assure food is cooked evenly and done in the time range listed in recipe, it’s important to cut ingredients the size indicated in recipe. Be sure not to peek during slow cooking, as each time the cover is removed, enough heat is lost to add 10-15 minutes to total cooking time.

Recipe Comments & Reviews

I followed the recipe exactly and it had NO taste whatsoever. It took me an hour adding different seasonings (too many to mention ) to make it decent ..Don't waste your time with this.
What a wonderful recipe and even on my diet I can have it.
Quite expensive for the cost of all the ingredients and disappointing in taste. It lacked something.
Halved the recipe for just my husband and I. Used herbes de provence instead of the marjoram and thyme, and normal cream cheese instead of the flavored one called for in the recipe. Tasted good--we'll definitely make it again.
My husband and I enjoyed this chowder very much. I used corn instead of mixed veggies this time around and it was good. I might try something else next time. Great with a piece of fresh french or italian bread!
I added a dash of alspice; otherwise followed recipe. Tastes better the next day!
My husband and I really enjoyed this hearty soup on a cold winter's evening. I must say that we thought there were too many potatoes! Next time I make it, I will probably do four instead of eight. Excellent with sourdough bread!
We loved this chowder, and I will definitely be making it again. I did make a small change to the recipe, though - I halved the cream cheese because I hate cream cheese! It was still very creamy and I will do the same thing next time.
Great tasting and super hearty. I sent it to deer hunting camp and got rave reviews from all.
Quick and easy with very hearty, rich results.

Cranberry Swirl Sweet Rolls
November 24, 2015 by Mallory

One of my favorite parts of the Thanksgiving meal is my husband’s homemade cranberry sauce. It’s a tart and sweet sauce, with hints of orange zest and brown sugar. I always have him make twice the amount needed because I love having leftovers. This year, I decided that rather than serving it alongside leftover turkey and mashed potatoes, I was going to try something new. We still have guests lingering the day after Thanksgiving, so what better way to ease the turkey “hangover” than with homemade sweet rolls for breakfast? More ...
