Candy Bar Fudge

Here is an old-fashioned fudge recipe with peanut butter cups added to make this fudge truly indulgent.

Ingredients

2 cups sugar
1 (5-ounce) can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups real semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, cut into chunks
1/2 cup chopped peanut butter filled candy bar cups*
1/2 cup coarsely chopped salted peanuts

Directions

Line 8- or 9-inch baking pan with aluminum foil, extending foil over edges. Butter foil.

Combine sugar and evaporated milk in heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 8-10 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil.

Reduce heat to medium-low. Cook, stirring constantly and boiling gently, 8 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in chocolate chips and butter until melted and mixture is smooth.

Pour into prepared pan. Immediately sprinkle with chopped candy bar and peanuts. Press topping firmly into fudge.

Refrigerate at least 2 hours or until firm. Lift fudge out of pan using foil ends; remove foil. Cut into small squares or rectangles. Place into individual paper candy cups, if desired.

Store covered in refrigerator up to 10 days.

*Substitute your favorite candy bar, coarsely chopped.

I have the worst time with fudge. It always seems to be gritty or too hard. I live at an altitude of 6200 feet. Is there something I should do differently?

My suggestion is for you to contact the Extension service in your area to learn information about cooking and baking at the high altitude. They will be able to help you with how to vary ingredients and timing in a recipe.

This is a fool proof recipe. So easy to prepare and it comes out perfectly! I love the versatility of being able to use the candy and nuts you prefer for the topping. I am thinking you could even use different flavors of chips such as butterscotch or peanut butter to make the possibilities endless!
