These tender Linzer cookies are a holiday tradition in Austria. The decorative cut-out on the top cookie allows the filling to peek through.

This recipe was awful. The dough was too hard when it came out of the fridge, but became super sticky when allowed to warm up. It could not be rolled at all.
I made these cookies. The cookies were tender and tasted perfect. One of the best on the net. And so simple. It's important to cool the dough and also to flour the rolling pin and board to control the buttery dough. Thank you...
I really appreciate the blog giving a step-by-step set of directions. I have loved buying and eating these cookies. I am so happy to have both the recipe and the photographic instructions giving me a variety of ideas on how to fill, decorate, and use the tiny cut-outs, too. Oh my I'm going to make some very pretty Gift Boxes, Cookie Swaps, and lovely Dessert Trays. Thanks for your help!
I made this cookies various time its so good !!
From the Test Kitchens...Sorry to hear about this cookie baking experience. It is important to chill the dough but you then will need to wait some time so the dough until the dough can be rolled out. In this recipe I may need to add 1 to 2 tablespoons of flour so the dough is then not so sticky to work with. Just knead it in with your hands.
This recipe was horrible! After I chilled it it was so hard it wouldn't roll and then when I let it warm up a little, it stuck to everything. I finally got so upset from trying to get it to roll out that I gathered it all up and threw it in the garbage. What a mess and a waste of good butter, sugar and flour! UGH!
What a beautiful, tender cookie! Almost shortbread-like cookie, very easy and very good!
This recipe is wonderful.... I have tried other linzer recipes and they were trashed . this is very easy and the dough rolls out and bakes like a dream . Thanks so much land o lakes.
This recipe is amazing. It is easy to follow and so delicious when finished. My husband loves these cookies. It's a lot of work, rather it's time consuming, but these cookies are so worth it. Yummy!!!!
I made these cookies the other day and I must say they were delicious!! I will be making them again and again.
I baked these for my 6yr old tea party. They were a big hit, I made a couple changes to the recipe. I baked the top and bottom together, so they didn't shift on the girls while they ate them. I also used orange extract instead of almond extract, and added in grated orange peel with raspberry jam. I am making it again for her cookie exchage she is having this weekend.
I am sorry to say that this recipe turned out terribly. Had to throw out the entire batch that's a pound of butter!!!
Done properly, these are my FAVORITE Christmas cookies to add to the assortment that I give as gifts. The cookies are a great deal of work, but so worth it. That's one reason I only make them at Christmas time.
i love these cookies

This past weekend was glorious! We had perfect weather for catching up on our yard work. We spent all of Saturday afternoon weeding and tending to our overgrown “problem” areas. Ryan’s mom, Becky, was even so kind as to come over and play with our toddler so that he could be outside, too – without getting too close to the clipping shears and other dangerous tools.
