What’s better on a cold night than a warm bowl of homemade chicken chowder? This easy recipe tastes like it simmered all day.
Melt butter in 4-quart saucepan; add leek. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 7-10 minutes or until leek is tender. Add sweet potatoes, chicken broth, garlic and thyme leaves; continue cooking 9-11 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil and sweet potatoes are tender. Stir in chicken and paprika.
Combine half & half and flour in bowl until smooth. Gradually add half & half mixture to potato mixture in saucepan, stirring constantly, 6-8 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil and is thickened. Add salt and pepper, if desired.

Since my kids love corn I added this to it, they ate every bit of it.
I made this for dinner tonight and had Rave reviews from all. Will make this often as I think its the best chowder I have ever eaten. I did use onions instead of Leeks because that is what I had on hand. One word sums it up, Delicious! I would give it 10 stars if I could!
This chowder was super easy to make and yummy! It does taste like it has been simmering on the stove all day. Thick and full of flavor!

Fantastic chowder (my first attempt)! Only difference, I added pepper flakes when sautéing the onions. Next time I'll thicken with mashed up potatoes instead of flour. I used very little salt, a tiny sprinkle on the onions. Loved it!

This was my first attempt at making a chowder and I used onions instead of leeks. OMG! It is absolutely divine. It had the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Even my husband who generally isn't a huge fan of soups, couldn't stop eating it and asked me to put this on our "make again" list!

This chowder came out just like the picture.!! It is delicious, thick and creamy. The leeks add that special flavor..along with the garlic, thyme and paprika..Such a good taste!!! I only had one can of broth ... I use left over rotisserie chicken .. Always have some crusty bread to serve with soup.. Oh so good!!
Do not let the simplicity of the recipe fool you - it tastes like you have been in the kitchen for hours. Delicious blend of tastes especioally with the Land of Lakes half and half.
The only thing I would change next time is to decrease to 1/2 teaspoon of thyme. Very tasty soup!
We made this...it's so comforting & just plain good. Only a few necessary alterations...for health conscious reasons, we sprayed the pan with a pan spray before adding, here, it was onions (just to save calories & fat). Also seldom have fresh garlic on hand so did a sprinkle of garlic powder (perfect), added some steamed & peeled sweet red peppers (for color), did 1/2 sweet potatoes, 1/2 carrots & we prefer rough shredded chicken over cubed (seems to absorb more of the flavor of the liquid). Used lo-sodium chick broth & a lot of course ground pepper. The Fat Free 1/2 & 1/2 was perfect. Definitely comforting for this time of the year! Thanks!

Excellent recipe---delicious and easy to make. Served it in bread bowls and everyone was pleased.
I made this and it's a little sweet, but good. Maybe more onion/leeks? But note it's easier to slice the raw sweet potatoes, then peel the slices, than attempting to peel a whole sweet potato. The recipe is a keeper.
I used onions instead of leeks, since the store I shop at only had one leek left and it was in pretty bad condition. This was the first time I've made a chowder and it was great.
Reallygood and bit spicy. I didnt have paprica so i used cajun. Maybe i would add corn?
I only made 1/2 recipe because I didn't want a lot of leftover...just the 2 of us. Big mistake, this was delicious. I had just made my own chicken stock, so I had that and used the shredded chicken for this...1/2 everything else in the recipe and will definately make this again......
We were having a "soup" day at work & I was looking for something different, but fairly simple. And, I will have to say this was absolutely wonderful. The chowder got rave reviews from each & every person that tried it. I will definitely make again & again!!
