This basic chocolate cake has a butterscotch and nut topping for extra pizzazz.

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup water
3 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened baking chocolate, melted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup butterscotch-flavored baking chips**
1 cup chopped walnuts
Heat oven to 350°F. Combine all ingredients except butterscotch chips and walnuts in large bowl. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until all ingredients are moistened. Increase speed to medium. Beat, scraping bowl often, until well mixed.
Spread batter into greased 13x9-inch baking pan. Sprinkle with walnuts. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until top springs back when touched lightly in center. Immediately sprinkle with butterscotch chips..
*Substitute peanut butter-flavored baking chips.
