Old fashioned oatmeal cookies are jumbled up with peanuts and candy.
Heat oven to 350°F.
Combine sugar, brown sugar, margarine, eggs and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until light and fluffy. Add all remaining ingredients except peanuts and candy; beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Stir in peanuts and chocolate pieces.
Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls, 2-inches apart, onto greased cookie sheets. Bake 12-18 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack.
Variation: Candy & Peanut Bar Cookies:
Prepare cookie dough as directed above. Press dough into greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan with lightly floured hands. Bake 23-27 minutes.

This is the first time I've made these cookies - I love them. I used butter, not margarine, and decreased the baking time to about 18". The are very firm and crunchy cookies, which I like.
I have been making these cookies for years. I use real butter in place of the margarine. This is the best M & M cookie recipe because the oats prevent the candies from sinking to the bottom of the cookie and burning on the sheet during baking. They are a staple for every holiday in my house. As soon as those holiday M & M's show up in stores, these cookies get made in my house!
Great cookie, great taste. However instead of margarine, I used land of lakes butter and shorten the bake time just a bit. My family gobbled them up.
My family all got together and made these tasty cookies! The recipe was easy to follow and gave us great quality time together.
