Make homemade caramel corn mixed with pretzels, candy corn, and other goodies for a perfect Halloween snack.
Heat oven to 200°F.
Combine popcorn and pretzels in large roasting pan; set aside.
Combine brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and salt in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 18-20 minutes or until mixture comes to a full boil. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, 3-5 minutes or until small amount of mixture dropped into ice water forms a soft ball or candy thermometer reaches 240°F. Remove from heat; stir in baking soda.
Pour mixture over popcorn and pretzels; sprinkle with peanuts. Stir until all popcorn is coated.
Bake 20 minutes; stir. Continue baking 20 minutes. Stir in chocolate pieces and candy corn. Continue baking 5 minutes. Immediately spread onto waxed paper to cool. Store in tightly covered container.

I've been making this recipe every year for Halloween as a family tradition and my kids love it! It has also been a hit at Halloween Parties with adults :)
I have made this recipe many times over the last 4 years. I make this version for Halloween and have yet to find anyone who does not eat it with relish! For Christmas I use deluxe mixed nuts and eliminate all candy, peanuts, and pretzels, and it makes wonderful Christmas gifts.
Do you thibk for a gluten free version, maybe adding Chex instead of pretzels? I might just have to try that :)
I got this recipe a few years ago and have made it several times evary year. My kids love it and so does everyone that has tried it. This will be a tradition in my home for many years to come!
this is the VERY best treat mix I have ever made. I never manage to get it right every time, but it never lasts long. So, I figure it doesn't matter! My kids love the chemical reaction when you toss the soda in the boiling sugar. And they cannot get enough of the stuff when it is made. I usually make it two or three times during the candy corn season!
There is never any leftovers when I make this. I plan on using spring color candies for Easter.
This tasted great. The pretzels and peanuts were a nice salty addition to the mix and the way the carmel coated them was delicious. It was a very time consuming recipe. I will probably only make it a few times a year because of the time involved, but the flavor is great and I received many compliments.
This is 2nd time making it this year! My kids & husband LOVE IT!! and it's so easy!

My daughter asks me to make this recipe every year! It is a hit with teachers and students at school.........and everyone else! Made a batch last night for my son's Harvest party!
