Becky has spent her entire career cooking and baking, which are also her favorite hobbies outside of work. For her, time spent in the kitchen not only relieves stress, but is lots of fun as well. Becky’s love for baking began as a child, standing on a chair next her mom, adding ingredients and mixing up dough.

No need to peel the pear in the fruity filling of these easy bars.
Combine all filling ingredients except pecans in 1-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, 2-3 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in pecans.
Heat oven to 375°F.
Combine flour, sugar and baking powder in large bowl; cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in egg. Reserve 3/4 cup crumb mixture.
Press remaining crumb mixture on bottom of ungreased 8-inch square baking pan. Spread filling to within 1/4 inch of edge. Crumble reserved crumb mixture over filling. Bake 28-32 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely.
Combine all drizzle ingredients in bowl; mix well. Drizzle over bars. Cut into bars.

Made this for my book club and turned out wonderful. I increased the nuts to 2/3 cup and did not use the glaze. It was rich enough without it. Recommend buying already chopped dates. I also would make the crust before the filling. It is easier to work with when it is still warm. Filling is very thick so more like drop on crust than spread.

Once the temperature drops a few degrees, I’m in full-on fall foods mode. Pumpkin bars, apple crisp, cranberry bread…you name it, I’m making it. However, most of it revolves around sweets. Why doesn’t dinner get a fair chance?
