Recipe Comments & Reviews

After visiting an Amish restaurant recently, I was anxious to find a good recipe for apple butter. This one was excellent and everyone loved it. I did add 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves, but otherwise followed the recipe. I used Ida-Red apples, because I read that they are the best apples for this use.
I doubled everything just becsuse I had a crockpot full. It was very tasty, tho I only put one cup of white sugar, and one cup of brown sugar my apples were sweet already and I did not want to ruin it by making it too sweet. Then I canned them using the waterbath method for 20 minutes. Now we can enjoy it for the winter months, I kept it in the crockpot for 6 hours on high to thicken it up.
I made this apple butter recipe for a family reunion. Everyone loved it and some said it reminded them of 'grandma's' butter. It was received so well, I was asked to make this for christmas presents. thanks land o lakes.
This was my first time making (and eating) apple butter. I followed the directions carefully, and it turned out great. It was very yummy.
