An easy white cake recipe we've called the Lazy Day Cake because the broiled frosting is so easy!
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside.
Combine 2/3 cup butter and 1/2 cup whipping cream in 1-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 6-7 minutes or until butter is melted. Set aside.
Combine sugar and eggs in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add melted butter mixture, flour, baking powder and salt. Continue beating until well mixed.
Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Stir together all frosting ingredients in bowl until well mixed. Spread over warm cake. Broil 2 to 4 inches from heat 2-4 minutes or until bubbly all over. Cool 15 minutes. Serve cake warm or cool.

Love this. Same recipe my great grandma used to rave reviews. I didn't have whipping cream so used cream of coconut instead & added the toasted coconut. Excellent variation.
I substituted light ingredients.
This recipe can be divided in half as well. Use 1/2 for the coffeecake and the other half for a terrific pineapple upside down cake!
This is very similar to a cake from childhood memories, but even better, because of the cream instead of milk. The one Mother used to make also had coconut in the frosting. A really good cake.
As in the previous review, Mom almost always added coconut. This was a treat mostly on days when Mom did the ironing and didn't much extra time.
