Sour Cream & Pear Coffee Cake

Coffee cake with sliced pears arranged in pinwheel fashion makes an eye catching treat for brunch, breakfast or tea.

Coffee Cake

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream
2 pears, unpeeled, sliced 1/4-inch*
2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar, if desired


1 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons sugar


Heat oven to 350°F.   Grease 9-inch springform pan, pie pan or round cake pan; set aside.

Combine flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in bowl; set aside.

Whisk 1 cup sour cream and eggs together in another bowl until smooth. Add to flour mixture; stir just until moistened.

Spread into prepared pan. Arrange pear slices in pinwheel fashion on top of batter; sprinkle with brown sugar, if desired. Bake 40-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Combine 1 cup sour cream and 2 tablespoons sugar in bowl. Serve as topping with warm coffee cake.

*Substitute 1 (16-ounce) can pear slices in light syrup, drained.

This cake is fabulous. I pushed the pears into the batter and added a few on top. I didn't make the sour cream didn't need it. The cake is so moist and flavorful. Best part is it's super easy and quick. I will be making this cake again soon!! Would like to try it with peaches or apples on top too.
Absolutely delicious, light and satisfying. Everyone at the table asked for the recipe! I only sprinkled cinnamon on top. I added some extra pears and pushed them down. The cake baked over some of the pearsand inside the pears were surrounded by the cake - beautiful & tasty.

Everyone loved the look and it tasted good but I did add cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top and I may add nutmeg in the cake next time.
I made this for my church youth group and there was none to take home so you could say it was a big hit
This cake is so moist and delicious. I would definetly make it again. My family loved it.
serves a beautiful breakfast buffet for fall. can be served and left for several hours while guest continue to go back for later servings.
