Coffee cake with sliced pears arranged in pinwheel fashion makes an eye catching treat for brunch, breakfast or tea.
Heat oven to 350°F. Combine flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl.
Combine 1 cup sour cream and eggs in medium bowl; beat with wire whisk until smooth. Add to flour mixture; stir just until moistened.
Spread into greased 9-inch springform pan, pie pan or round cake pan. Arrange pear slices in pinwheel fashion on top of batter; sprinkle with brown sugar, if desired. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Meanwhile, stir together 1 cup sour cream and 2 tablespoons sugar in small bowl. Serve as topping with warm coffee cake.

This cake is fabulous. I pushed the pears into the batter and added a few on top. I didn't make the sour cream topping...it didn't need it. The cake is so moist and flavorful. Best part is it's super easy and quick. I will be making this cake again soon!! Would like to try it with peaches or apples on top too.
Absolutely delicious, light and satisfying. Everyone at the table asked for the recipe! I only sprinkled cinnamon on top. I added some extra pears and pushed them down. The cake baked over some of the pearsand inside the pears were surrounded by the cake - beautiful & tasty.Went really fast!!!!!
Everyone loved the look and it tasted good but I did add cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top and I may add nutmeg in the cake next time.
I made this for my church youth group and there was none to take home so you could say it was a big hit
