Ingredients

4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 (12-ounce) package (2 cups) real semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chocolate chips

Directions

Heat oven to 375°F.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in medium bowl; set aside.

Combine butter, sugar and brown sugar in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla. Continue beating, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Gradually add flour mixture, beating at low speed until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chunks.

Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 10-14 minutes or until light golden brown. (Do not overbake.) Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack.

Recipe Tip

- It is important to measure the flour properly when cookie baking. Here are our suggestions for measuring flour: Stir flour in the bag or canister with a large spoon to lighten it. Lightly spoon flour into a dry measuring cup and level with a spatula or knife. Be careful not to tap or shake the measuring cup when measuring. It is not necessary to sift the flour in baking unless the recipe specifically states to do so.

- To enhance the chewiness of these cookies we suggest covering and refrigerating the dough for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight. Refrigerating the dough allows the flour in the dough to hydrate and the flavors in the dough to develop. In the Test Kitchens we tested this recipe and found that the cookies that had been refrigerated for at least one day or even two days were thicker and chewier than cookies immediately baked after mixing the dough.

- For 2 1/2-inch cookies, drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes or until light golden brown. 48 cookies.

Recipe Comments & Reviews

I don't usually bake from scratch, but since my birthday was coming up I decided to give this recipe a try. Now every time a special event comes up I always stick to this recipe. It is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe and I'am spreading the word to all of my friends so that they can try it!
Thank you Land O' Lakes!
This is just the best recipe. I will never look for another. I thought it was perfect when baked right away. Will have to try to let them set overnight. Will be trying other recipes. This one is a diamond!
This is my favorite chocolate chip recipe!
I made these for Santa with my six year old and my 21 month old helping me. They are simply the best!! I refrigerated my dough for 4 hours and the cookies had a very nice rise to them and turned out very chewy! My six year old thinks they're a bit rich. We were only able to eat one each minutes out of the oven. Today however, they're much better--properly cooled and not quite as rich as when served warm! This was my first time ever making homemade chocolate chip cookies! The reviews helped because my dough was quite stiff after refrigeration but I sat it out for awhile and worked with it and they turned out marvelously!
I found/tried this recipe for the first time over 4 years ago and I still use it to this day. Absolutely scrumptious chocolate chip cookie recipe, I've ever made! One tip I will share with others, if your daring enough, is instead of the real semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chocolate chips. What I do is take Hershey bars and cut them up in chunks that makes 2 cups. You can notice the difference in the chocolate taste right away, more oozy and gooey then regular chocolate chips. Give it a try!
This is the only chocolate chip cookie recipe I use! I've made these countless times. Everyone I know asks me to make these! The only alteration to the recipe I make is adding more chocolate chips. I use 1 1/2 bags. Not sure of what the measurement is. I suggest using different size chips or maybe different types of chips like dark and milk chocolate. I like to use 1 bag of semi sweet chips and 1/2 bag of mini chips. Great recipe!!
Excellent recipe! Everyone wanted to know what bakery I bought them from, they weren't buying the homemade story.
Absolutely marvelous. I added a few extra chocolate chips just because and baked the chips at least 16-18 minutes
I made this recipe using the tablespoon drops. They came out great and perfect when baking for a crowd.
My husband is the Chocolate Chip Cookie monster rather than myself.
I’m always on the hunt for THE best recipe. I have to say this is better than any of the others I’ve tried. I made a half batch; used a 1ounce disher, baked them on a silpat for 11 minutes, PERFECT. The yield was 2 ½ dozen three inch cookies. I made up the dough and stashed it away in the refrigerator for two days, that was the hardest part.
This a great recipe! Honestly if you mess up, it's only because you can't bake ;-)
My FAVORITE. I've NEVER had success using recipe found on the back of chocolate chips bags. Also dough may seem stiff and dry... I had no problems once baked. Held together nicely. This recipe can be EASILY MADE INTO HALF PORTION if you want to test it out and see if you like them. It made 12 cookies (and 1 raw cookie dough ball for the hubby).
I like mine semi-doughy in the center so I pull them out as soon as they get a bit of golden color on outside.
Um...dry is NOT a word I would ever use to describe these AMAZING cookies! The people who gave these a bad rating must have done something wrong. I have been making these for years and have never had a bad cookie in a batch. My kids kid that they hear angels sing when they eat these! lol! I have searched for years for the perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe and I have found it. Thank you!
Seriously amazing! I let it sit in the fridge overnight, and it scared me a bit when I took it out to bake them and could barely get a butter knife through it! But I just let it sit for a while and then eventually broke it up and formed it into balls to bake. They came out perfect! Best chocolate chip cookies I've EVER made. To other posters who said the dough was dry, it IS drier and grittier than other generic recipes. That shouldn't scare you away, you just have to work with it. Perhaps try 2 jumbo eggs instead of large. (I used large) I think they have to be a bit drier and thicker in order to not spread out too thin in the oven. To the poster who threw away the batter because it seemed to dry, it's unfair of you to post such a low rating, when you did not give them a fair shot at baking.
This is my son's & husband's favorite choc chip recipe. I do however add 1 cup coconut, 3/4c choc chunks, & 3/4c chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts). I also watch them carefully to when the sheen just goes away and it starts to slightly brown, then I take them out. They cool sofy and chewy. I then store the batch in the freezer and take out as needed.
This is the only recipe I use and we are very particular about our chocolate chip cookies! I can understand why some get a result that is too dry. Climate conditions do affect the recipe. My cookie does not look like the posted picture above but much more fluffy looking and chewier. I live in a cold climate and do not need to refrigerate to get the chewy affect. The flour you use can also change the texture of the cookie as some flours will absorb more liquid creating a drier dough.
NEVER AGAIN WILL I MAKE THESE COOKIES! THEY WERE VERY RAW IN THE CENTER AND BROWN ON THE EDGES. I BAKED THE COOKIES A LITTLE LONGER, BUT THEY JUST CAME OUT EVEN FLATTER AND WRINKLED. I WILL FOR SURE STICK TO MY OWN RECIPE. THIS WAS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!
If there is one cookie I HATE to make it is chocolate chip. I NEVER get them to turn out right. But that all changed today!! This recipe is awesome. I followed it to a T and the cookies were HUGE and yummy. I will use this recipe over and over again. I will chime in and say that you have to pay attention and make sure you use 3 STICKS of butter. It says 1 1/2 cups but if glance at it quick you may think 1 1/2 sticks.
I would give it more than just 5 stars!! This is the best recipe I have ever made for chocolate chip cookies!! They come out perfact every time!!
I made the recipe just as it said and my dough is dry like sand. Threw it away :( what a waste of money.
Best Chocolate chip cookie recipe ever!!!!!!Will definently make again. Although came out a little hard. very delicious!!
Awesome !!! I've tried many and these are perfect! I added walnuts but would love to try them with pecans next time. I also used chips but would like chunks too. I got 2 dozen. :)
I Was on a search for the perfect chocolate chip cookie. Found it! These get rave reviews every time I make them!
This is by far the BEST chocolate chip cookie recipe I have ever made. I love all the good tips that they give you to make these cookies taste the best. This will always be my go to recipe when making the best tasting, chewiest cookie. Yum!
I don't understand how this recipe received any bad reviews. They must have messed up the butter amounts or something because I made it exactly as instructed and they came out perfect. I will never use another chocolate chip cookie recipe again!!! If you tried this and failed...try again!!!! They are amazing!!!
I love this recipe these cookies have made me the envy of my mother in law cause everytime she makes cookies she hears they are ok but jessicas are better
I have been making these cookies for years! My entire family loves them! I have tried at least 50 different recipes for chocolate chip cookies....and since I found this one....I haven't tried another! I love them! Thank you.
AWESOME RECIPE!!! I've tried several chocolate chip cookie recipes over the years...this by far is the best I've come across. There wasn't a need to tweak a single thing. I'll be making another batch real soon!
The overall awesomeness of these cookies can be summed up using one sentence: My family literally fought over them, ending with the teenage boy grabbing the lot and outrunning the rest of us so that he could have them all to himself. Enough said.
Yum! I made these cookies yesterday. They turn out HUGE!! Delicious and chewy (i think they'll be gone before I find out if they stay chewy for more than a couple of days). The only thing I changed in this recipe (because I don't love having a ton of chocolate chips in my cookies) is I only add one cup of chocolate chips and I also add a cup of walnuts. / I must add that I didn't refrigerate the dough before cooking either.
I made these cookies for the Memorial Day Weekend and was very disappointed.. I followed the directions and even refrigerated the dough. The cookies did not melt to flatten out on the cookie sheet. I had to use a spatula to flatten the cookies so they would cook. Too much flour in recipe ingredients. My kids didn't complain because they were hard and crunchy they way they like cookies.
I made these cookies today and, OH MY, are they ever good!!!! A keeper. Those who have had problems with the cookies are possibly reading the butter amount wrong and using 1 1/2 sticks instead of 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks). Also if you dip your measuring cup into the flour you are getting more flour than you should. Spooning the flour into the measuring cup gives a more accurate measurement. I used my large scoop (1/4 c. size) and pushed the cookies down slightly before baking. Spread out beautifully and still gave a thick cookie that was crunchy on the edge and soft in the middle. YUM!!!!
Hope those who had a problem will give these another try.
Wow! Best ones ever. I've been trying for years to get chocolate chip cookies right....finally! Thank you!!

I am 54 years old and have baked many different chocolate chip cookie recipes in my life. looking for that "perfect" tasting chewy cookie. And I have finally found it. This recipe, I found by accident on the inside of the box of Land O Lakes Butter last year. My family LOVES them. And they always turn out the same chewy, creamy texture and taste. I love this cookie. I make them all the time. The quality of Land O Lakes Butter makes ALL the difference in the world. Want the BEST tasting, chewy texture in a cookie? This IS the one. Try it. You'll never go to another recipe.
I was afraid after I mixed the batch and started reading the reviews that maybe there was some truth to the poor ratings, but my cookies baked up excellent! The dough was stiff, which yield a cookie with body. But it was in no way dry. I baked the 1/4 cup scoops for 12 minutes at 375. They did flatten, they just aren't "flat" cookies. I turned off the oven and left them a few more minutes just to make sure they cooked through. The insides were moist the outside, crisp. I don't know how this recipe can be called bland: cups of sugar, sticks of butter, a tablespoon of vanilla! then the chocolate chips! I can't imagine how it can taste like a biscuit. Cookies can come out very different if you change any little part of the recipe. Maybe it's worth trying again if something didn't work the first time.
Some got negative reviews probably because they used 1 1/2 stick of butter instead of 3 sticks ( 1 1/2 cup ).....
Terrific! The best chocolate chip cookies I have ever made and eaten!
Delicious - i replaced 1/3 of the flour with ground hazelnut with excellent results.
also tried variatioj with 1/3 of flour with ground almonds and used white chocolate!
Greattttttt!!! Easy recipe. And went over good at Bake Sale. Will make more but also add some pretzel pieces next time.
This is the BEST Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe ever! I have made them 5 or 6 times now and my family love them....
Very, very good. I've been looking for years for just the "right" chocolate chip cookie.
I think I may have found it.
Ran out of butter, so I substituted 1 stick of margarine for 1 stick of butter. Therefore, I used 2 sticks of LOL butter and 1 stick of margarine.
Refrigerated the dough overnight as suggested to "hydrate" the dough.
Good suggestion, but..............the dough then needs about 30 to 60 minutes to warm up again a bit so it can scooped into the 1/4 measuring cup. Chilled butter, makes for "rock hard" dough, and just about impossible to shape.
Baked them for 8 minutes on my air bake cookie sheets, turned the sheet after 8 minutes and baked them for an additional 7 minutes.
I also liked that it makes a small amount of cookies per batch. (I got 28 cookies to this batch).
It's just the two of us, and we don't need 8 or 9 dozen cookies. Thanks again for a great recipe. I would definitely recommend this recipe. I think it's a "keeper."
The dough was way too dry going off of the recipe inside the butter box. I added 3 more eggs and everything turned out fine. And by fine I mean the most amazing chocolate chip cookie I ever made. I will write down my own modified version of this recipe and use it in the future. I gave five stars because of how awesome they turned out with modification. Without the extra eggs, I wouldn't even give it o e star...
Most delicious chocolate chip cookies ever! So chewy and perfect! I make them for my dorm all the time and they are always gone within 10 minutes!
The best chocolate chip cookie recipe EVER! My daughter's family loves them...have already made two batches and am about to prepare the third...will freeze the cookie dough in cookie-size pieces.
Terrible. Like some others have said, they do not flatten when put into the oven and they are hard as bricks. I think the dough is much too dry. I wanted Chewy cookies.
I made this recipe exactly as instructed and they turned out hard
THESE ARE THE MOST FANTASTIC COOKIES EVER. I THINK I KNOW THE PROBLEM REGARDING THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS............. YOU MUST READ THE RECIPE CAREFULLY.. ALL THE CARRYING ON ABOUT THE CHEMISTRY OF THE RECIPE BUT ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS ADD THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF BUTTER WHICH IS 3 STICKS INSTEAD OF 1 1/2 AND THE COOKIES WILL BE PERFECT JUST LIKE MINE...... LOVE LOVE LOVE THESE COOKIES.
Like others here, I think the proportions are out of balance. There's way too much flour for the amount of wet ingredients. The cookies came out dry and the only taste came from the chocolate chips. They did not flatten while baking. I agree that they were more like biscuits. I've used recipes from the Land O' Lakes butter box in the past with good results but this one was a true dud. I'm sorry I wasted good ingredients on them.
Well I wish I had read reviews before making these cookies from the recipe on the inside of the LOL butter package. Then I would have put the CORRECT amount of butter in the cookie mixture. The chocolate chips would not mix in with the dough to start with and I thought that was odd. I may try again but halve the recipe next time to see if it works.
These are the best chocolate chip cookies we ever tasted homemade or store bought, I m usually unsucessful when making chocolate chip cookies but these are foolproof, they taste delicious they also look so beautiful especially if you don't overcook them.
i used an icecream scoop instead , excellent
The best chocolate chip cookie recipe I have ever used. By far :)
THIS RECIPE (Chewey Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookies) IS A BIG WINNER AND A FAVORITE COOKIE OF MY FAMILY, AND FRIENDS. IN FACT, ONE OF MY SON'S IS WORKING AND LIVING IN PARIS, FRANCE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS EMAILED ME WITH A SPECIAL REQUEST THAT I MAKE UP A (BIG) BATCH AND SEND SHIP THEM TO HIM. LOL
I am 17 years old, and love baking these cookies! They always turn out perfect, and everyone always comments how amazing they are! I am known for my cookies, and this is the recipe that I use!
I discovered this recipe inside the butter box. I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful these cookies are. I will never use a different recipe. I took them to a party last weekend and people were asking for the recipe.
I love these cookies! They are so tasty and they freeze well so you can pull a few out any time you want a quick delicious treat!
my dad makes em, and now so do i. its easy and i love it!!!!!! i make em a lot and im turning em in to school tomrow for our discovery class. were having a cookie challenge so... thats why. but these are amazing!!!! oh, did i mention im only 11 years old???
I make this recipe EVERY time I make cookies! I add a tablespoon of espressso and add an extra bag of chocolate chips. I give dozens of them away as part of my Christmas gifts and people always ask for the recipe. Not sure about the negative reviews...... I LOVE IT AND SO DOES MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!!!!!!!
I'm an experienced baker and followed the directions exactly on the recipe. The taste was lacking and the cookies had the texture of a biscuit. I don't understand how this recipe got so many excellent reviews. I'll never make them again. I'm going back to the tollhouse recipe.
MAKE SURE YOUR BUTTER IS SUPER SOFT--IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WOELD!!!
Love, love, love this recipe! I've been searching for it my whole life. I like to use sea salt.
For the past 26 years I've been searching for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe to make for my children, and now my grandchildren. This is IT! Everyone in the famly agrees this is the chewiest, the loftiest, the best tasting, and the fastest disappearing cookie any of us have ever eaten. What a relief...the search is finally over! Thanks so much for this best of recipies I accidentally found on the inside of a box of LOL butter. We used approx. 6 oz. chocolate chips and 6 oz. Hersey's toffee chips rather than using only chocolate chips.
I am confused by all the GREAT reviews of this recipe. It was so dry! I followed the recipe exactly, measured accurately, and didn't overbake but they didn't come out GREAT for us! I thought they were dry and bland. I compared it to my normal cookie recipe and was amazed at how little butter and eggs were in this recipe. After baking one sheet of cookies and not being thrilled, I added 2 additional eggs and 1/2 teaspoon of additional salt; this made the dough much more moist and required more baking time. This gave better results but not the greatest ever. I will stick with my usual recipe instead... sorry!!
Flavor was lacking -- very bland. I used the recipe on the Land'o'Lakes box, which did not include salt. I shook some salt on top of the cookies after baking to see if salt would improve the flavor -- it was better, but still something seems to be missing.
This is a great cookie. The funniest thing is I didn't have butter so I used Land O Lakes margarine instead. This cookie came out awesome. My children loved it. I ate it when it just came out of the oven and it was awesome and I ate one the next day to test it for dryness. It was not dry at all. It was still moist and chewy the next day. It did not quite flatten but that worked to its benefit because I believe if it had flattened it might have been dry and crumbly. Great recipe.
These cookies came out the closest to perfect that I've achieved so far. Not as good as my roommate's mom's recipe, but she won't give hers up so I will be making a lot of the Chewy Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookies :)
This recipe is awesome. They were a hit at my 4th of July picnic.
I love this recipe! The only thing different I did was to add 1/4 cup more flour and it made them fluff up! Yummy! Thank you so much for a great recipe!
Simply adding Flax Seed Meal to any cookie recipe will add fiber & "healthify" the cookie to make it just a little less of a guilty pleasure. Check out my healthy version of chocolate chip cookies here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Healthier-Chocolate-Chip-Oatmeal-Cookies
I am so disappointed. I followed the recipe, to the letter, and they turned out very dry, and very cakey. I make cookies every few days, and these are one of the worst I've ever made. Will never ever ever ever make these again.
Simply the best! Would not change a thing, turned out perfect
Best chocolate chip cookie recipe I've ever made. The guys like it when I use 1/2 butterscotch chips and 1/2 chocolate. I think that makes them too sweet, but then I'm less likely to eat them so win-win.
This recipe was very dry for me. I followed the instructions to use 1/4 of a cup of dough for jumbo cookies. The dough didn't expand or flatten out at all. They looked a lot like chocolate chip bicuits until I flattened them with a fork toward the end. The taste of the cookie is kind of bland and almost tastes like a sugar cookie with no icing. It was better if the bite had a chocolate chip in it, but the bite of just cookie weren't too great. Sorry if this is similar to other reviews, I haven't read them yet. Maybe they will taste better after they sit a day... sometimes baked goods do I've noticed.
This is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe I have ever made. Everyone thought that I bought them from a bakery. I made the cookies a little smaller than suggested but they were still chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
I always have trouble with cookies baking flat. These were the BEST COOKIES I've ever made! I did not measure the drop as a full 1/4 cup scoop but it was close and watched them in the oven. I did not bake the full 14 min...maybe 10 to 12 min. YUMMY YUMMY!
i LOVEEEE Land O'lakes butter! I'm known as a great cook and baker. I know that for cooking you can change ingredients, but for baking you have to follow the recipe in order to get good results, so i did it .. step by step. when the cookies came out of the oven ( which i took out before the 14 min) I thought they look great!, not too big and not too flat, but when i put them on the cooling rack i was just soooooooo disappointed with the result. The cookies were too floury and too sweet. I read great reviews on this recipe, but i don't know how you guys did it. I personally think there is too much flour on the recipe. I'm so sad that i wasted delicious butter that i could have used on something else other than this awful cookie recipe. I still love land o'lakes i just won't use this recipe at all.
I used a medium Pampered Chef scoop (2 Tbsp I believe) and only had to bake mine for 8:30. Definitely keep an eye on them.
I've made these cookies for over 10 years. Published in my Land O Lakes Simply Delicious! Cookies brownies desserts pies book. The recipe from the book actually uses 3 1/4 cup flour and 1 cup cake flour. This is how I've always made it and it's always been perfect. Make sure not to overbake. If you're making them smaller, take them out earlier. I don't think I've ever left them in for 14 minutes.
Delicious buttery tender chocolate chip cookies! I enjoy baking and eating them;-)
These big beautiful cookies are amazing-so much better than any others that I've made! The kids thought I had gone crazy and bought out the local bakery. I was short on the white sugar, so I used a cup and a half of brown and we loved them so much that I will continue to make them that way. Four days later and they are still soft and delicious.
I'm really confused by the negative reviews on here. If you make this recipe as written, you can 't go wrong! I halved it and the cookies were phenomenal! And as someone pointed out, it's 1 1/2 CUPS of butter....NOT 1 1/2 STICKS. Anyhow, like I said, I halved the recipe, used my medium Pampered Chef scoop (evenly measured), and it made 29 nice sized cookies. I was a little worried about the dough being too dry, but I think it was because my butter wasn't as soft as it could have been, so my dough was stiff. The cookies were GREAT though!! TRY THIS RECIPE!!!
It's very simple: 1. Use the best ingredients
2. measure precisely*
3.Mix according to recipe
4. Bake- be careful not to over bake,
*If you live in a humid area, you may need a little extra flour. Depending on the moisture content
of your flour. I take these out just before they appear 'done'. They finish cooking on the sheets.
I love the way these cookies look ; instead of spread out, and dull, these have just a tiny bit of shine and cracks on top. Truly the best! One last thing I do that might be a little OCD but before I start putting cookie sheets into the oven, I put a couple of 'test' cookies in first. This little extra step is hard for me to do, I want to get baking right away! But it has saved runny cookie dough, incorrect temp., all kinds of things. It's worth your time. When I make these incredible cookies,
I must give most of them away, or I'll sit down with a gallon of skim milk and a plate of these!
I have been making a family recipe chocolate chip cookie for years but was searching for a recipe for one without pecans. I saw this recipe inside the butter box and thought I would give it a try. These were the best cookies I have ever tasted ! I don't understand the few negative comments that are listed. The butter taste made these melt in your mouth delicious ! My tip would be to slightly underbake these cookies and use a baking stone to end up with a slight crunch around the edges with chewy centers. Give it a try and follow the recipe exactly - you won't be disappointed !
i'm no baker. even won one of the prizes for the worst looking dish by conde nast. but this recipe is fabulous. my husband said i've become quite a cook after tasting these. i've made the recipe twice so far and the cookies were consistently great both times. i followed it to a letter and used parchment paper. my son is the pickiest eater and he loves them!
I've been on a search for a good recipie for a while. THIS IS IT!!! MMMmm My theory is...the more butter you use the better the cookie!
These are by far the best chocolate chip cookies i have ever made!
everyone always loves them!
O.k. Melissa is right, I reread the recipe and it is 3 sticks of butter (1 1/2 cups) not a stick and a half. I made this mistake and I too had horrible cookies. I will retry using the 3 sticks of buuter instead of the scant stick and a half. LOL. I will rate after the second batch is done.
From the Test Kitchens...
Colleen, I am thinking you may have used slightly too much flour so the cookies were dry. There is a great amount of flour in this recipe and if you measure a little too much flour into the measuring cup with each cup you measure the amount of flour could be just a little too much for the dough.. With too much flour the cookies will be hard and dry. The right way to store your cookies, as you say, is to store the cookies in a container with a tight-fitting lid.
These are the BEST chocolate chip cookies EVER!

And to those who say they are bad or dry...it is 3 sticks of butter = 1 1/2 CUPS! Not 1 1/2 sticks. Just Saying!

These are the BEST chocolate cookies EVER!

I have made these cookies many times but with 12 hours these cookies get really hard. I follow the recipe exactly, remove cookies from oven when lightly golden, only leave on cookie sheet 1minute or less, cool on rack for 10-15 minutes, and store in a tightly sealed container or sealed bag. Why do these cookies get so hard in such a short time? Please email me back as to why. Thank you.
Add a little more vanilla. Awesome!!!
This is the worst chocolate chip cookie I have in my 65 years of baking. Surely 4 1/2 c of flour is way too much for 2 eggs and 1 1/2 stick of butter. The chemistry is all off and I should have followed my first mind and passed on this recipe. The finished product (which I threw away) was tasteless and dry...the chips didn't even melt! I won't try any of your recipes again.
A friend of mine found this recipe knowing I nail any recipe I try and make the best cookies--because of technique.....This recipe is completely off chemically. Not enough liquid to dry ingredients.
Land o' Lakes---You should be ashamed of yourself!!! A real baker knows their cookies---this is not a cookie, it is a sweet baking powder biscuit with sugar and chocolate in it.
Shame, I will never bake these and I told my friend not to bother buying your products any more.
If I could---I would not rate it at all............0/5 stars
Tasted dry and floury. My kids didnt even want a second one.
Mmmm-mmmm GOOD!
no other cookies fly out the door as fast as these
These are the best Chocolate Chunk cookies I have eaten, the Chunks give just enough chocolate flavor without being over-powering. Perfect balance of flavors, not too much brown sugar. I will keep this recipe for ever.
i love them and so do my family neighbors and friends. i cannot believe all the negative comments... if they spread to much when you bake them try chilling the dough first. i found that it does help. my favorite by far... for more sweetness i use a combination of semi sweet and milk... you can also add a handful of white morsels for an added flare..
These cookies were OUTSTANDING! My family and friends loved them. I can't wait to try the chocolate cake!
I cannot believe the negative comments about this recipe; it is the best I've ever made, and I've baked A LOT of cookies, testing many a recipe. These cookies are chewy, thick, and very flavorful. People go ape over them when I make them. IMPORTANT note - I notice there is one big difference in this online recipe and the "same" recipe that is provided with the purchase of Dough Makers baking ware. INstead of 4.25 cups all purpose flour, use 3.25 cups all purpose and 1 cup of cake flour. Less gluten, making a more tender cookie. Try it that way, and refrigerate the dough before baking.
This is by far, the worst chocolate chip cookies I have made in my forty years of baking! I should have known better when I saw the 4 1/4 cups of flour using only 2 eggs. They were like a biscuit, dry and no flavor at all. I even added more vanilla and that didn't help.
This cookie is great for bake sales to sell as individual treats. Or to package in 3 or 6 ct. packages for sale. You can add some holiday colored M & M's if you like to correspond to the theme of your sale or whatever holiday is near. I place the individually wrapped cookies in a basket with other individual treats and a sign for pricing. They always appeal to the kid in everyone.
ok. I have been searching for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe forever! I read all the reviews and thought I have hit the jackpot!!

:( My husband said "these taste like chocolate chip biscuts"..... They stayed very plump but very dry. They have a good flavor but just a little dry. They didn't flatten out at all. I re-read the recipe many times just thinking I missed something but I didn't. I was sadly disapointed.
A note to Pam who posted on 9/2/2010: The recipe printed on the inside of the box did not have the ingredient salt . I came to this site because I just could not believe that a cookie recipe would not have salt. Salt helps with rising, also. I make this recipe with white chocolate chips, craisins and pecans--you won't believe how delicious that combination is!

I always make this recipe when I want to make chocolate chip cookies. It is simple, easy, and THE BEST. I make them for bake sales and they have become the most popular item. Children love the jumbo size. I use an ice cream scoop (large) for easy measuring and uniform size. One tip, do not overbake. Take out when slightly browned. Don't worry about them being undercooked. They will not be. They turn out perfect. Try this recipe! They do not turn out flat!
The flavor was good, but not special.
I get rave reviews everytime I make these cookies! People just love them.
These cookies are the best, my entire family loves them. My husband will eat a dozen by himself in two days.
I found this recipe at the back of the Landolakes box and was so disappointed with the results. The cookies spread and came out flat. I was bummed that I wasted costly ingredients on it. This recipe just didn't work out for me and I would be reluctant to try any other recipe from Landolakes. I normally don't try any recipes from the back of a box but since it was a reputable company I was anticipating successful results.
Cookies stayed plump, didn't flatten out. They were yummy too. I didn't change anything about the recipe. It's great as is.
My husband LOVES and RAVES about these! LOVE THEM!
These cookies are SUPERB. They taste unbelievable, look fantastic and are a huge crowd pleaser. I use milk chocolate chips and add macademia nuts. They are delicious!
I have been looking for the BEST chocolate chip cookie recipe
for a long time and I finally found it. These cookies are soft
and chewy and turn out perfect every time. Every time I
make them for work everyone asks for the recipe. I follow
the recipe exactly, the only difference is that I use chocolate
chips rather than chunks. This is the ONLY chocolate chip
cookie recipe I will ever use!
I have never gotten more compliments than when I use this recipe! These are crowd-pleasers all year around. They're soft and remain soft for so long!
This is, hands down, the best chocolate cookie recipe I have ever made. Not only do they taste fantastic but the look beautiful as well as compared to the toll house recipe where they spread out and become too thin. They store well in a sealed container and taste almost as good on the third day as they do on the first. I make a lot of cookies in my house at least a batch a week and this is one of the few my husband asks for. That being said since I make so many cookies I usually make a 1/4 batch. What has worked well for me is using 2/3 of a large egg rather than 1/2. I know it sounds crazy but this has worked for all cookies I bake. I rarely make a full batch of anything. That being said, you also can't go wrong with extra chocolate chips. Oh - and the dough is awesome. Yum!
These cookies are excellent. They are soft, chewy, and not too sweet. As a little change, I made some with cranraisins and they were excellent too. A must keep recipe!
I loved these cookies, they were big and very soft and chewie, all the things I love in a cookie. I experimented a little bit with the recipe and used half butter flavored crisco and half butter. I also used 2 cups brown sugar and 3/4 cup grandulated sugar. I think the brown sugar makes them softer.
I always make the tollhouse recipe, this time I decided to make it because it called for so much flour, and I needed alot of cookies. I decided to use leftover peanut butter cups and hersey bars from Halloween, about 12 and 8 respectively. They came out phenominal. I will probably make these all the time with the Resces too. And as for the salt, don't need it if you use the peanut butter cups.
I made this recipe last night and was so disappointed with the results. I made the smaller version which were still huge, but the cookies spread and came out flat. I'm an avid baker, but this recipe just didn't work out for me. I was bummed that I wasted costly ingredients on it.
I LOVE TO BAKE THESE COOKIES FOR PEOPLE & ME OF
COURSE! THEY JUST FALL IN LOVE WITH THEM AND KEEP
ASKING ME TO MAKE MORE! EASY, CHEAP AND YUMMY! I
I make these cookies with my cookie scoop rather than jumbo. My husband saw the recipe on the butter box and asked me to make them for him. I highly recommend these cookies...they are the best we've ever had!
I thought these cookies were really good. I do feel the recipe is missing salt. I am remaking them today and going to add, I'll let everyone know the difference.
I found this recipe on the back of land of lakes butter packaging and decide to make it. I brought them in to work and they didn't even last until lunch time. Everyone raved about them. I myself am not a big chocolate chip cookie fan, but family and coworkers think these are the best cookies ever!
Overall it is a great recipe. The texture and size of the cookie is awesome! The only change I would make is to reduce the sugar. The dough itself was overly sweet. I will make again reducing the white sugar by 1/2, and the brown sugar by 1/4 cup. Other than that they were great!
I'm not a big fan of chocolate chip cookies my roommate is, but I LOVE these cookies. I followed the recipe the first time with the chocolate chunks, but the last time I used semi sweet mini chocolate chips. I like the mini chips much better!
My husband nor I are fond of Chocolate Chip cookies but I work with a bunch of guys and made them for work. However, not many made it to work. We both loved them. My husband told me not to loss this recipe because they were so good.
I have owned a successful Fudge/Candy company and consider myself a professional baker and thought my choc chip cookies were the best until I tried this recipe. The only changes I made: add 1 tsp. butter flavoring, 1/4 c. flour, 1/3 c. toffee chips, dash cinnamon & dash nutmeg. Using a 1" square of dough w/o chips wrap it around a Rolo choc/caramel candy, then place choc chips on top before baking. Bake 375 degrees for about 10 min., just until outer edges are slightly browned and all dough is fully cooked. It makes the most delicious, chewy cookie I've ever had. Most everyone I know agrees. I usually double or triple the batch and freeze some for later use like the next week! Thank you Land of Lakes! P.S. It is impt to remember to use ONLY L.O.L. brand margarine sticks in all your baking and candy making. It tastes better than real butter and doesn't brown the edges of cookies as much, giving you a soft chewy cookie without having to under bake.
These were huge. They taste as good as my favorite bakery cookie.
I bake cookies every week for my husband's sweet tooth, and these cookies are the bomb!!!! I've tried at least 6 other recipes, to try to get a soft chewy cookie, and this one is it!!! I made the smaller version - 2-1/2", and they are great. I plan to make the 5" version also, and use them to make some ice cream sandwich cookies. Yummy! Thanks LOL!!!
Yeppers!! Our new fave chocolate chip cookie recipe. My 'taste testers' decided that there wasn't enough chocolate chunks in the cookies so I added more so that to begin with you would use 2, 12 oz bags of chunks. AWESOME!!
These have become my "go to" chocolate chip cookie recipe. The flavor, texture, and the predictable way they turn out every time I make them is why. They freeze well and are very sturdy. I too use the medium pampered chef cookie scoop and they are perfect!
Today, I have made this recipe for the first time. These cookies have baked up nicely and my hubby says they are excellent. I do not need a better recommendation than that to make them again.
Simply the best chocolate chip cookie recipe I have ever tried. It has a nice chew to it and if you are a fan of chocolate the large chunks are very satisfying.
I am a chocolate chip cookie fanatic. These were by far the best cookies that I have ever made. They looked like they were from a bakery. I like my cookies warm from the oven so I would only bake a few at a time and keep the rest in the refrigerator.
These cookies are terrific! They are chewy and delicious and were a hit with my whole family.
THE COOKIE WAS DELICIOUS. WILL MAKE IT AGAIN..
Eureka! I have found my chocolate chip cookie recipe. Compared to Toll House, and the Mrs. Fields copycat recipe, this one is by far the best. Each cookie came out to near perfection. I highly recommend this recipe.
Loved it, I used margarine instead of butter. The cookies stayed chewey and big. They didn't burn. I have a problem with cookies spreading and being flat but these didn't do that. They had a nice chewey texture. This will be our new chocolate chip recipe. PERFECT! Thanks LandOLakes!
My family and friends LOVED these cookies. I made them 4 days ago and I'm making another batch today. They get gone quickly!
I have been making the same chocolate chip cookies every time and decided to try something different. The size is great and the taste is excellent. Try them you won't be disappointed.
These are just the recipe I was looking for. They are delicious, crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside.
Used this recipe was used to teach two grandchildren know what "baking from scratch" means. They were 7 and 8 years old. They were thrilled to make the cookies, and the cookies didn't last too long. We saved some, to drive them back to Virginia, after spending some Summer Time with my husband; their grandpa, and me, on their great-grandmother's and grandpa's farm in Iowa. They have been coming out since they were 2 years old, along with their older sister and brother.

Recipe was very easy to follow. They took turns putting in the ingredients, which they loved to do.
The best, but only keep for a few days.
this is my favorite chocolate cookie recipe, I use a medium size ice cream scoop from pampered chef, And they come out perfect.
So easy to make! These cookies are exactly what I was looking for, big, chewy cookies that are also crunchy on the outside and not wimpy or greasy. The taste is phenomenal!
A friend had made these cookies, and they were beautiful - perfect, even baked and delicious. When I got the recipe from her, the same was true for mine. These are nice and sturdy and travel well. FABULOUS!!!
Thanks!
