Penuche is a rich creamy frosting made from brown sugar, butter, milk or cream and vanilla.
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside.
Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon salt in bowl; set aside.
Combine sugar and 1/2 cup butter in another bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Continue beating, adding 1 egg at a time, until creamy. Add sour cream, bananas and vanilla; continue beating until well mixed. Beat at low speed, gradually adding flour mixture and scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Stir in 1/2 cup walnuts.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 40-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
Combine brown sugar, half & half, 1/4 cup butter and 1/8 teaspoon salt in 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat 6-8 minutes or until mixture comes to a full boil. Cool 15 minutes. Stir in all remaining frosting ingredients; beat until smooth.
Spread frosting over cooled cake; sprinkle with 1/4 cup walnuts.

My family loved this cake. This is the 2nd time that I've made this cake, and because we loved it so much I made 2 this time- 1 w/ nuts an 1 w/o. The frosting is delicious; I agree that it makes the cake! I took Florence's advice and reduced the powdered sugar to 2 cups and that seemed about right. I also used "light" sour cream and milk instead of half-and-half and it was still rich and yummy. Enjoy!
So super easy and delicious!!!!!!!!! THUMBS UP!!! Super Moist!!!!!!!!
This recipe is so easy and delicious!!! Super moist.
This is an excellent recipe. In my opinion the frosting makes the cake. The cake is very moist and it has a tender crumb. It will go very quickly when you serve it. The only problem is the frosting is a little bit too sweet but you can adjust that by using less powdered sugar.

Am I alone in my love-hate relationship with summertime s’mores? Don’t get me wrong, they are amazing. However, my consumption bliss is short-lived as I try to corral 30 sticky fingers covered in s’more fall-outs before they touch the dog, play in the sandbox, or use my shirt as a napkin.
