Mocha Tiramisu

Ingredients

Filling

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur or very strong sweetened coffee

Cake

1/3 cup water
2 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur or very strong sweetened coffee
2 (3-ounce) packages ladyfingers
1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts, toasted
1 (1-ounce) square (1/3 cup) semi-sweet baking chocolate, grated

Directions

Beat cream cheese in large bowl, scraping bowl often, until light and fluffy (2 to 3 minutes). Add powdered sugar and whipping cream. Continue beating, scraping bowl often, until stiff peaks form. Gently stir in 2 tablespoons liqueur by hand.

Stir together water and 2 tablespoons liqueur in medium bowl. Split ladyfingers in half lengthwise. Place half of ladyfingers in bottom of 9-inch square glass baking dish, cutting to fit, covering entire bottom of dish. Sprinkle ladyfingers with half of water and liqueur mixture and 1/4 cup hazelnuts. Top with half of filling mixture. Sprinkle half of grated chocolate over filling. Repeat layers, ending with grated chocolate. Cover; refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

To serve, cut into squares.

TIP: Very strong sweetened coffee can be made by stirring together 1/4 cup instant espresso powder or instant coffee granules, 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 cup boiling water.

Tiramisu is one of my son's favorites and when he was home from college recently, I made this as a special treat for after dinner. It was a hit! I substituted marscarpone cheese for the cream cheese since I had already purchased it and used a combination of the strong coffee and the coffee flavored liqueur. Also, in addition to the grated chocolate for the top, I sprinkled some Hershey's cocoa powder on it as well. I will DEFINITELY make this one again...probably for the holidays if not sooner! A real winner!
I love Tiramisu anyway, and thought this was just EXCELLENT
