Baked macaroni and cheese that is a classic creamy mac and cheese recipe baked to perfection.
Heat oven to 350°F. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain.
Melt butter in 3-quart saucepan until sizzling; stir in flour, mustard and onion powder. Add half & half; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, 5-7 minutes or until mixture boils and thickens. Reduce heat to low; stir in cheese. Cook 3-5 minutes or until cheese is melted. Add cooked macaroni; mix well.
Spoon into ungreased 2-quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with cornflakes. Bake 30-35 minutes or until heated through.

My four kids loved it. It was a hit.
I added ham to the recipe and topped it with crushed Onion and Garlic potato chips instead of the corn flakes, and it turned out very well.
I made the recipe except I added some sharp cheddar cheese as well. It was delish, my family asks for it :
The recipe was okay. Not very flavorful. I also used lowfat 2% cheese, which I think made the sauce grainy instead of creamy. It might have been better with regular cheese. Even so, it didn't have a lot of flavor. I would probably not make this dish again.

Once the temperature drops a few degrees, I’m in full-on fall foods mode. Pumpkin bars, apple crisp, cranberry bread…you name it, I’m making it. However, most of it revolves around sweets. Why doesn’t dinner get a fair chance?
