Peppermint cookies that melt in your mouth! These delicate peppermint morsels look truly special on a holiday cookie platter.
Combine butter, powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour and cornstarch; beat at low speed until well mixed. Cover; refrigerate until firm (30 to 60 minutes).
Heat oven to 350°F. Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack. Cool completely.
Meanwhile, combine 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons butter, 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract and enough milk for desired glazing consistency in small bowl. Stir in food color, if desired. Drizzle over cooled cookies. Immediately sprinkle with crushed candy.

I make these every year. They have become a tradition that my kids love. I add melted chocolate on top of the glaze. You can also add red/green food coloring to the glaze to make them more festive. YUM!
I made these last Christmas and put them with other cookies that I gave my co-workers for the holidays and they all loved them and asked if I was making them again. I will make them this year for the holidays and be sure to make extra batches. This recipe was super easy and very, very tasty -- just melt in your mouth tender mint cookies!
I have made these cookies after finding the recipe on Pinterest. The cookies are very delicate and crumbled easliy with my first batch. I have since googled the recipe and found it here. The recipe I have didn't say anything about putting them in the fridge for 30-60 mins. I'm going to make another batch tomorrow to see if maybe that is what my problem was. Other than this, they are good and do melt in your mouth but taste better with the glaze and peppermint candy on them!
I know these have super good reviews...but mine taste just like dough. I made them exactly like the recipe called for. I dont know what I did wrong. Maybe I will try again w/ more peppermint extract.
Has anyone tried making a Gluten free variation of these? I also need a good substitution for the corn starch since we have a corn allergy in our family! thanks!
Easy to make and so super delicious. The name says it all...these cookies melt in your mouth.
Soooo easy to make, and YES they DO melt in your mouth...now only if I can keep my husband away from them until Christmas!!!
I have made this cookie for the past 3 years, I replace the peppermint with Almond flavoring in both cookies and glaze / icing... oh talk about yummmmmmmmmy
Every year I make these cookies for my family, neighbors & my kids' teachers.. Everybody always loves them & ask me for the recipe. BEST Christmas Cookies!!!!!! :)
When I started making them 3 years ago my very first batch didnt come out right so I went along and made them again a few days later they came out perfect (relized never hurry when making em ) I make these during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas love these cookies theyre a tradiation. ( I dont use salted butter use unsalted butter first mistake was store bought butter thats a no no use LAND O LAKES )
It has been a favorite in my family since the first time I made them. They are easy to make and look so festive for the holidays. Everyone that has tried them always ask for them year after year! A real hit!
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! MY FAMILY INSISTS I MAKE THEM EVERY YEAR FOR CHRISTMAS!
Very easy and great tasting cookie.
I love this recipe! They truly melt in your mouth!
My family loves this recipe! We love the peppermint, but I have also tried substituting almond extract for the peppermint and used blue food color in the glaze and they came out absolutely delicious!!! Melt in your mouth goodness!!!
I LOVE these cookies!!! They are AWESOME!!! I made them when I was a kid and still do 15 years later.
Add more peppermint and these cookies are perect!! So Christmasy and delicate... yum!
These cookies do melt in your mouth. However, I would add a little more peppermint flavor to the cookie itself.
You can make this cookie virtually sugar-free by using Ideal brand confectioner's sugar substitute and sugar-free peppermint candies! The recipe works beautifully because the butter adds the right amount of moisture so the cookies don't turn out too dry. A wonderfuly treat for any diabetic person in your life!
We made these for Christmas and Valentines. The taste and color captures the season. I make them small so they are just a single bite of peppermint goodness.
THIS WAS THE WORST RECIPE EVER! YUCK! IT WAS A WASTE OF TIME AND PRODUCT.
Delicious and easy to make. Mine turned out a little flatter, but they tasted great and looked great once decorated. Had the consistancy of Pecan Sandies.
Very easy, very Christmasy, very good! Only downfall is that they are so fragile. But that's what makes them melt in your mouth, so I guess it's a fair trade! Great Xmas cookie :
These cookies were very easy to make, and I really liked that they used such few ingredients. I didn't get 4 dozen out of the recipe because some of my dough balls turned out bigger than 1", plus I lost 5 cookies due to breakage. That is the only reason that I didn't give this recipe 5 stars. I found that these cookies were a little fragile during the cooling process, and crumbled if moved before they were completely cooled. Other than that, they looked and tasted great.
My friend made these cookies for me and I had to try to make them myself. They are delicious and so festive looking. They do have a short shelf life of 1-2 days and then they really start to crumble when eaten. My friend's looked perfect but I had trouble with the cookies spreading too much, even after chilling. Hopefully the next time they will turn out a little better if I just give them more time in the fridge.
We all enjoyed these.
I tried these for the first time this year and absolutely loved them. They are super easy and made 4 dozen without a problem. I had two cookie exchanges this year to attend and needed a total of 8 dozen cookies. I only made one recipe of the frosting and it covered both batches of cookies perfectly. They were a big hit and I will be making them again!!!
I doubled the recipe with no issues. Should have made my glaze a little thinner, but that was my issue. These cookies melt in your mouth, very cute easy & tasty!!
Very easy to make. These have just the right amount of mint flavor to them - not overwhelming and very refreshing.
The recipe made exactly 4 dozen cookies. The description of these cookies is definitely delicate, and they truly do melt in your mouth. Delicious.
VERY simple to make! Has just enough peppermint flavor, not overpowering. Easy to handle dough. My kitchen was filled with the soft scent of peppermint. It's July and I already have family putting in requests for these festive cookies!
These cookies turned out okay. They looked pretty, but just didn't deliver the taste I was looking for. Some will like them better, I just didn't.
I love these cookies. They are incredibly easy to make. I ran out of powdered sugar after making 20 dozen pecan fingers, so I didn't have any left for the icing for these cookies. I happened to have a can of opened pre-packaged tub frosting in the 'fridge - vanilla flavor. I microwaved that for a few seconds and added peppermint extract and the food coloring to it, put it in ziploc baggie and snipped the corner and frosted the cookies with that. Very fast and very easy! After that set, I melted some chocolate (as someone else here suggested) and drizzled that on top. So easy and so good! I would definitely make these again.
I/We love these cookies.I have been making them since I first received the Land O' Lakes cookies recipe card in 1995???Easy to make~ Wonderful to look at & eat!!!
I love peppermint and I love pink so this recipe combines both! I have made a similar recipe for years, minus the peppermint flavoring. These are easy to make and delicious! I am so excited to make them again for my Christmas trays. Another winner from Land o Lakes!
We loved this recipe! I made a couple of minor changes and they were even better. I am looking forward to your next bake-off to submit an entry.
So easy to make and so pretty. And they're delicious as well! This is one of my favorites to make at Christmas.
These were delectable! I love peppermint and these definitely hit the spot. I didn't have any peppermint candies to put on top, so some I drizzled with milk chocolate, some I sprinkled with chopped pecans and some with pink sanding sugar. Very excellent cookie no matter how you do it!
An absolutely delightful addition to any holiday baking tray! Easy and delicious. This is one recipe that has made it to my holiday baking collection!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these cookies! Irresistible!
