Star-Light Star-Bright Cut-Outs

Jam filled cut-out cookies will be the highlight of your holiday cookie tray.

2/3 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup your favorite jam


2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 to 3 tablespoons milk
Food color
Decorator sugars and decorator candies


Combine butter and cream cheese in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add sugar, egg, lemon zest and lemon juice; continue beating until well mixed.  Add flour, baking soda and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.

Divide dough in half. Shape each half into ball; flatten slightly. Wrap each in plastic food wrap; refrigerate 1 hour.

Heat oven to 350°F.

Roll out dough on lightly floured surface, one-half at a time, (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut with 2- to 3-inch cookie cutters. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Place 1/4 teaspoon jam in center of each cookie; spread slightly. Top with another cookie. Gently press edges to seal.

Bake 7-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet; remove to cooling rack. Cool completely.

Combine 1/4 cup butter, powdered sugar and vanilla in bowl. Beat at low speed, adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency. Tint frosting with food color, if desired; frost and decorate cookies.

Recipe Tip

- Store between sheets of waxed paper in covered containers.

- Traditional cut-out cookies can be made from this dough. Omit jam filling.

Made a great hit at a party . lost the recipe but am glad to have again. When you use jelly between place cookies at an angle and dust with powdered sugar.
