Best Butter Cake With Browned Butter Frosting

Butter cake can be made even better when frosted with a creamy browned butter frosting.

Ingredients

Cake

2/3 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk

Frosting

3 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 to 4 tablespoons milk

Directions

Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 2 (8- or 9-inch) round cake pans; set aside. 

Combine 2/3 cup butter and sugar in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla. Continue beating, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. 

Reduce speed to low. Beat, gradually adding flour, baking powder and salt alternately with milk and scraping bowl often, until well mixed. 

Divide batter among prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely.

Meanwhile, melt 1/4 cup butter in 1-quart saucepan over medium-low heat until lightly browned (4 to 5 minutes). Combine browned butter, powdered sugar and vanilla in small mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often and gradually adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency.

Spread frosting between cooled cake layers, top and sides of cake.

Recipe Tip

Cake can be baked in 13x9-inch baking pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.

This cake came out very good. I cut the baking time about 5 minutes as soon as the top started to turn golden. The cake came out very moist. The frosting is delicious.
Next time I will add the maximum amount of milk to the frosting, so it makes spreading easier.
I made the cake last night for a Christmas Party at work but I put it in a 13x9 pan. I don't know if it was because I made it into a sheet cake but the cake was really dry. Alot of cake receipes I use have more butter or oil in them. I will not be making this one again unless I add more butter.
the flavor reminded me of cakes my grandma used to make. but next time i will make sure i have the correct pan size and i think it will make a big difference in taste alone. but overall i liked it alot.
I make this cake with Luscious buttercream frosting from this site. So delicious.
