Apples make these buttery brown sugar apple bars moist and delicious.
Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 15x10x1-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray; set aside.
Combine 1 cup butter, sugar and brown sugar in bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy. Add eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla; continue beating until well mixed. Add all remaining bar ingredients except apples and pecans. Beat until well mixed (mixture will be very thick). Stir in apples and pecans.
Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. Bake 28-33 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
Melt 1/2 cup butter in 1-quart saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring constantly and watching closely, 5-6 minutes or until butter just starts to turn golden. Remove from heat. Cool completely.
Combine browned butter, powdered sugar and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed, gradually adding enough half & half for desired spreading consistency. Spread frosting over cooled bars.

Recipe is easy to make. I reduced nutmeg to 1/2 teaspoon per my personal liking. The bars turned out great...very light and moist. Great without any frosting!
I am a diabetic, and with the 2 cups of both sugars, how come there isn't a "nutrition fact" on the sugar amount? Doesn't sound like it's a very good idea for diabetics. Let's put in the "whole nutrition information" please.
Don't add the frosting if you haven't a sweet tooth. We ate them while still warm (although they were harder to cut ) with a dollop of Whipped cream. Very tasty.
5 STARSI made this recipe for a potluck lunch, I will bring today at my ceramic class.I did a test taste with my family and they all wanted more, so I know it will be a hit at the lunch.I did ot change one thing in this recipe. I found the browned butter frosting very tasty, I used a combination of green apples I had on hand, Thanks Land O' Lakes for a great recipe..
I served this for my mother's 89th birthday. Everyone loved it!!
I made two batches of this recipe, one for me and one for family everyone ate it like it was the best thing they ever ate, I think the apple type you choose makes the difference, I chose Gala apples it turned out superb. Thanks Land O Lakes I will make this again for a dessert for Thanksgiving.
I agree about there could be more apples, I also made it in a 13x9 pan, it tastes like apple cake, it's good, just not what I expected, also I didn't frost it, I put ground pecans on top, I believe frosting would make it way too sweet.
I made this recipe and it is so grossly sweet and the apples do not bake up in the length of time it takes to bake the rest of the ingredients. I would have liked more apples in it for more of an apple taste. Not only is the bar very sweet but then when you add tthe frosting. The frosting recipe call for 4 cups of powdered sugar this makes a very thick layer of sweet gooey frosting on top. I scraped part of it off. Maybe if these were made in a cake pan so they would be thicker and then use half the frosting.
It is barely out of the oven and not frosted yet, but it tastes marvelous!
I made this and served it for my book club. Everyone loved it. I used a pyrex 13x9 baking dish and 3 honey crisp apples (4 cups chopped). Also "guilded the lilly" by sprinkling coarsley chopped pecans over that "to die for" icing!I am rating it 4 stars instead of 5 because I thought it was time consuming, although I must say, "worth it"p s: 2 eggs are the 4th ingredient, but thepicture covers this when printing.
fantastic flavor and texture
There are eggs listed in the ingredients! And the bars are delious.....fave reviews from family!
?It states" beat at med speed, gradually adding enough half & half??? No where in the ingredients does it call for half & half. Do I add half & half or am I not understanding
The bars are nice and moist and the frosting tops them off nicely. Be sure and add eggs even though the recipe doesn't list any in the ingredients. I added two and that worked out well for me.
Great taste (except I accidentally added too much salt)... however, I'm rather new at baking, and the recipe never told me how many eggs - I think I added too many eggs ... the final result was too mushy and impossible to simply cut into bars. Not sure I'll repeat the recipe - may just take some of the ingredients and do something different.

I admit it: I let my kids have chocolate cake for breakfast this week. Some of you are probably shocked and questioning whether I am fit to be a mom. However, I know there are a handful of “my people” who are saying, “See, I knew we could do this!”
