Passed down for four generations, these buttery sugar cookies bring back fond memories of Grandma's cookie jar.
Heat oven to 350°F.
Combine butter, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed. Add flour and salt; beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until well mixed.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls to 1/4-inch thickness with bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Place pecan half in center of each cookie.
Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack.

Delicious and easy to make! They remind me of Scottish shortbread, or if I added chopped almonds and a dash of almond extract, my mom's favorite Crescent cookie. Next time I'll make a double batch and use a bigger cookie scoop, because I'm a big guy ;-)
This is it! I found my grandmother's recipe for the best cookies ever. She made them with Ballard Flour which you no longer can get. This is an old recipe, simple, but delicious!!!
This is one of the best cookies I've ever made. The recipe was easy to do and the taste was delicious. The pecan on top just added to the depth of flavor.
followed the recipe exactly, and as i was mixing the dough, thought....seems like too much flour, but i did as was directed anyway.... they taste nice but quite frankly...a bit dry.
I specifically tried this recipe to make thumbprint cookies for Christmas. It was perfect. Excellent flavor and extremely easy to make. Once I added my butter cream frosting they were over-the-top! This recipe is a keeper!
This is one of the best butter cookies I've ever tasted. I made these cookies to see if I would include them in my holiday baking, they now will go at the top of my list. If I can brinig myself to actually give them away they are so good.
