Chocolate Toffee Coffee Cake

Ingredients

Cake

1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Margarine, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sour cream

Filling

1 cup real semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup toffee bits
1/4 cup sliced almonds

Topping

3 tablespoons sliced almonds
2 tablespoons toffee bits
1/8 cup powdered sugar, If desired

Directions

Heat oven to 350°F. Combine margarine, sugar and almond extract in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Continue beating, adding 1 egg at a time, until well mixed. Reduce speed to low. Beat, gradually adding flour, baking powder and baking soda alternatively with sour cream, until well mixed.

Spread half of batter into greased 9-inch round cake pan. Sprinkle all filling ingredients evenly over batter. Spoon remaining batter over filling; carefully spread to cover. Sprinkle all topping ingredients except powdered sugar over batter.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan. Serve warm or cool. Just before serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.

I would change the sliced almonds to slivered almonds, and definitely toast them first. Otherwise, this recipe was a huge hit and easy to make. It will have a permanent place in my repertoire.
