Easy cookie recipe! This delicate, almond-flavored butter cookie can be decorated in a variety of ways.
Heat oven to 400°F. Combine butter, sugar and almond extract in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add all remaining cookie ingredients; beat at low speed until well mixed.
Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls to 1/4 inch thick with bottom of buttered glass dipped in sugar. Bake 6-8 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool completely.
Melt chocolate chips and shortening in 1-quart saucepan over low heat 2-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until smooth. Drizzle or pipe chocolate onto cookies making tree design, if desired.

Delicious melt in your mouth! Very easy to make taste great.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe!! I have been looking and looking for a good almond cookie recipe since Christmas. I am not a huge chocolate fan but I drizzled Ghirardelli milk chocolate over them and they were to die for!!
This has been a mainstay of my Christmas cookie platters for 20+ years. Always a hit. I flatten them with a decorative Cookie Press dipped in colored sugar. They come out of the oven beautiful and sparkly.
Terrific! and very easy to make. My son made them for a school project. We used imitation almond extract and they were delicious. I do not understand the 1 star ratings either, unless the person did something wrong and did not follow recipe.
This cookie was good, similar to a butter cookie I make for my family. I melt Godiva chocolate anddip half of the cookie in the dark chocolate. Sometimes sprinkle chopped nuts also.
These cookies are delicious. I will keep this receipe close at hand Don't understand the one star rating except the person said they wasted 1/2 c butter. The receipe calls for 1 c. unless you are going to half all other ingredients. As for me - I love them.
Made these cookies today and they are delicious. They are buttery and lite at the same time. My whole family loved them and they were so easy to mix and bake. Will be adding this recipe to my xmas favorites.
Absolute 5 star recipe. Cannot figure out how those who rates this 1 star were thinking!Very reliable. Fabulous flavor. This is an excellent cookie receip!
These are melt in your mouth good! Gave at cookie exchange and every person wanted the recipe.
this recipe is awful. It does not look anything like the photo . I almost think they left out an ingredient. I feel I wasted a 1/2 cup of butter and everything else.
These cookies are yummy and quite easy to make!
Love this recipe. It's always a hit!
I omit the almond extract and substitute orange extract. I then melt dipping chocolate and dip one half of the cookie in the chocolate. Delicious!
I made these delicious melt-in-your-mouth cookies about 30 years ago and have never found any better! I was so glad to see that it was (again) printed inside the box. THANK YOU!
My daughters and I have been making this recipe for years. We, also, make the cookie with peppermint rather than almond, then dip one side of the cookie in melted chocolate. It tastes just like a pepprmint pattie! These always are the first to disappear!
I have made these for years. An all time favorite! I sprinkle with red or green sugar and then put the opposite color dried cherry on them. Everyone loves them! I think I have been making these for about 10 years off and on.
My god these are delicious. I was expecting a very light taste like pecan sandies (which I love). It is similar but with sugar on them. Scrumptious! I haven't added the chocolate cause I'm afraid to ruin them. I'm making these for my husband's work and think they are perfect just as is, no choc.
Made this as a Christmas cookie this year. Used milk chocolate for the tree drizzle (which was very easy and looked good, following the directions given). I think it tastes like an almond joy and like them a lot.
The recipe was lacking in sugar or something sweet and it didn't even taste like almonds.
I made this recipe last Christmas and added green food coloring to tint the dough. Instead of drizzling a design on top, I dipped one end of the cookie in melted chocolate. The cookie itself tastes delicious and the added chocolate made it my Dad's new favorite holiday treat.

This year, my grandson Clark is 3 years old, so I wanted to make some cookies that he would love to eat and would find to be fun, too. These adorable Powdered Sugar Snowmen Cookies are just the ticket.
Chocolate’s complex flavor brings out the sweetness and tanginess of fruit, mellows the heat of peppers, and comes alive when introduced to a little bit of salt. The real question should be, “What can’t you dip in chocolate?” More ...
