This triple chocolate drop cookie is the ultimate chocolate experience.

2 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened baking chocolate
4 (1-ounce) squares semi-sweet baking chocolate
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated orange zest
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans


Heat oven to 350°F.  Grease or line cookie sheets with parchment paper; set aside.

Place butter and baking chocolate in 1-quart saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 5-6 minutes or until melted and smooth. Cool slightly.

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in bowl; set aside.

Beat eggs in another bowl until thick and lemon-colored. Gradually add sugar, beating well after each addition. Add cooled chocolate mixture and orange zest; beat until well mixed.  Add flour mixture; beat at low speed until well mixed. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans.

Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto prepared cookie sheet. Bake 9-11 minutes or until set. Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheets; remove to cooling rack.

How does the recipe change if I don't add nuts. Do I have to grease the cookies sheet if I use a silicon mat?

You can make this cookie with or without nuts. With the nuts it just adds a little texture to the cookie. There is no need to grease the cookie sheet when you use a silicon mat to bake the cookies on.

They are Devine I used mini chocolate chips they do disappear quick!
I made these recently. They are delicious and super chocolaty. The recipe measurements are correct. However, the dough looked a little thin to me when I made it, so I refrigerated it for a bit before forming the cookies and baking them. They turned out perfect!
The cookies in the picture look delicious, but is "1/4 cup all-purpose flour" correct? It doesn't seem like nearly enough.

This cookie is like the texture of a very fudgy flourless cake. So, including just 1/4 cup flour in the recipe is correct and will work just fine. Recently I made theses cookies at home and they disappeared almost as fast as I could make them.

Is there a substution for the squares of chocolate squares? Like cocoa powder ?

Hi Marilyn, The recipe calls for 2 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate. The substitution for the 2 squares is 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder + 2 tablespoons butter. Add it to the cookie mixture in the same step as you would have added the melted chocolate. Hope this helps.
