Texas Sloppy Joes
A family favorite that comes together in a snap with pantry staples making this a no-fuss weeknight meal that everyone will love.

1 pound extra lean ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon firmly packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
dash hot sauce, if desired
6 slices Texas toast bread
Cook ground beef in 12-inch skillet over medium heat until no longer pink. Add onion and bell pepper; continue cooking until vegetables are softened (3 to 4 minutes). Add all remaining ingredients except bread and cheese. Reduce heat to low; cook until thickened (5 to 10 minutes).
Heat broiler. Place bread onto ungreased baking sheet; broil 4 to 6 inches from heat, turning once, until toasted (4 to 6 minutes). Top each with 1 slice cheese; continue broiling until melted. Top each with 1/2 cup beef mixture and 1 slice cheese; continue broiling until melted (1 minute). Serve hot.
If desired, serve on regular hamburger buns, instead of Texas toast.
