STEP 1
Heat oven to 350°F.

Combine 1/2 cup butter and sugar in bowl; beat at medium speed until well mixed. Add flour, milk and salt; beat at low speed until mixture comes together and forms a dough. Stir in walnuts until well mixed.

Shape dough into 1/2-inch balls. Place balls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Slightly flatten each ball with glass dipped in flour. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Remove to cooling rack. Cool completely.

Combine cream cheese and 1 tablespoon butter in bowl; beat at medium speed until well mixed and smooth. Add powdered sugar; continue beating until smooth. Stir in rum flavoring. Spread 1 teaspoon filling over bottoms of half the cookies. Top with remaining cookies, bottom-side down.

- Use a food processor to quickly grind walnuts.

- For a more sparkly look, roll balls of dough in sugar prior to flattening.
