Penuche Frosting

Penuche is a rich creamy frosting made from brown sugar, butter, milk or cream and vanilla.

1 3/4 cups

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla


Cook brown sugar, half & half, butter and salt in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat 6-8 minutes or until mixture comes to a full boil. Cool 15-20 minutes. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla; beat until smooth.

I added a full teaspoon of vanilla to give it a little more kick.
this was so good on the banana cake !
gonna make more today, make it a thinner consistency and drizzle it over angel food cake !
Tastes like old fashioned caramel icing! Sweet sweet sweet! Add a little more powdered sugar to make it thicker.
