This dessert is very dense in texture and chocolate in flavor. It is worth serving for special guests.

Ingredients

Coffee Crème Anglaise Sauce

1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
1 1/2 cups milk
4 egg yolks, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cake

8 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate baking bars, broken into pieces (We recommend NESTLE® TOLL HOUSE® Baking Bars)
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
Powdered sugar, if desired

Directions

Combine sugar and coffee granules in medium saucepan; stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture just comes to a boil. Remove from heat.

Gradually whisk half of hot milk mixture into egg yolks; return mixture to saucepan. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is slightly thickened (3 to 4 minutes). Strain into small bowl; stir in vanilla. Cover with plastic food wrap; refrigerate until serving time.

Heat oven to 350°F. Microwave baking bars in medium microwave-safe bowl on HIGH for 1 minute; stir. Microwave at additional 10 to 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth; cool slightly.

Beat sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla in small bowl until thick and lemon-colored. Add melted chocolate; mix well. Reduce speed to low. Add flour. Beat until well mixed. Spread into greased 9-inch springform pan.

Bake for 25 to 28 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes. Remove side of pan; cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar; serve with Coffee Creme Anglaise Sauce.
