Chunky Pecan Pie Bars

These pecan pie bars are laced with chocolate.

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar


3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup corn syrup
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 (11.5-ounce) package (1 3/4 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chunks
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped pecans


Heat oven to 350°F.  Grease 13x9-inch baking pan; set aside.

Combine 1/2 cup butter and brown sugar in bowl; beat at medium speed until creamy.  Add flour; beat at low speed until crumbly. Press into prepared pan.

Bake 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Whisk sugar, corn syrup, eggs, 2 tablespoons butter and vanilla together in bowl. Stir in chocolate chunks and nuts.

Pour evenly over hot, partially baked crust. Continue baking 25-30 minutes or until set. Cool completely.

Have been making this for the last 3 or 4 years - it's a favorite with everyone.
I have made these over a hundred times, they are sturdy bars that look decadent and rich the minute you lay them out. This is the bar version of a 'Derby Pie' which is a pecan pie with a chocolate bottom but it is ten times better and serves a crowd easier. Definitely use the CHUNK chips, again, it adds a gourmet touch and when you store (I freeze) definitely use wax paper between the layers because they are sticky from that pecan filling. Also, I line my 9 X 13 pans with the non-stick alum foil and spray before I bake, it will make clean up easier and will cut perfect bars for you when you remove from the pan. Make these - you will never hear the end of it!
This is my favorite bar recipe. It's very easy to make and is delicious. I discovered the recipe on the butter container but lost it in a move a few years ago. I've looked for it and finally found it on the website. I'm off to make some!
