Overnight Sausage Strata

This egg bake recipe is delicious and easy for breakfast or brunch!

Ingredients

1 (12-ounce) package frozen spicy pork sausage, thawed*
1/3 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/3 cup chopped red bell pepper
6 cups cubed 3/4-inch French bread
1 teaspoon onion salt
4 ounces (1 cup) shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions

Cook sausage, green pepper and red pepper in 10-inch skillet over medium heat 3-5 minutes or until sausage is browned and peppers are crisply tender . Drain off fat, if necessary. Stir sausage mixture and bread cubes together in large bowl. Place into ungreased 2-quart round baking dish; set aside.

Combine fat free half & half, Fresh Buttery Taste® Spread, eggs and onion salt in same bowl. Beat at medium speed until well mixed. Pour egg mixture evenly over bread mixture in baking dish. Sprinkle cheese evenly on top.

Cover tightly; refrigerate overnight.

Heat oven to 350°F. Uncover; bake 40-45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean and cheese is browned. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

 

*Substitute bulk ground Italian sausage.

Very good and easy!
Not big on peppers so we leave them out. This is very tasty and extremely easy
We thought it was very good. We left the peppers out because we just don't like those for breakfast. But very good overall, and super simple to prep ahead, which makes it great for holiday mornings.
I have made this recipe for home several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. I took to my church for a Saturday brunch and to my surprise it went quickly. I use a hot sausage and found seasoning the batter to add flavor since the first time in preparing this recipe was bland. I use egg substitute to cut down on cholesterol and of course Land O'Lakes butter. I usually like toast with this casserole and fresh fruit or juice. It's great to make over the weekend for a breakfast alternative through the week.
This dish was excellent! So easy to prepare. A keeper. I did
decrease to sausage to 8 oz., increase the eggs to 6, added a
chopped onion and skipped to butter spread. Everyone loved
it! Try it you will like it.
