1 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flour

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or almond flavoring, if desired
Food color, if desired
Decorator candies, sugars, etc., if desired

Combine all cookie ingredients except flour in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour; beat at low speed until well mixed.

Divide dough in half. Wrap each half in plastic food wrap; flatten slightly. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm.

Heat oven to 375°F.

Roll out dough, one-half at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), on lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2-inch cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 7-10 minutes or until edges are very lightly browned. Cool completely.

Combine powdered sugar, water, 1 tablespoon butter, corn syrup and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla in bowl; beat at medium speed until powdered sugar is moistened. Continue beating until mixture is smooth, adding additional water, if necessary, to reach desired glazing consistency. Tint with food color, if desired.

Glaze cooled cookies. Add decorator candies, if desired. Let stand 1 hour or until glaze hardens.

Recipe Comments & Reviews

I am assuming that the flower gets added slowly when other ingredients become creamy?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Inadvertantly the addition of the flour was left off from the directions. I am updating the recipe now. You should add the flour after the butter sugar mixture is mixed well and is creamy. Then beat on low speed so all the flour gets mixed in.

I didn't care about the name or the shape of the cookie as you can make them into any shape you like. The taste was DELICIOUS!!!! This one is a keeper.
No matter how they taste, no one could bake these for St Patrick's Day because they are Four-Leaf CLOVERS instead of Three-Leaf SHAMROCKS. Irish Shamrocks were used by St. Patrick to teach the idea of the Trinity to the pagans (3 leaves on one stem). Americans often make this mistake but I would think a food company's chefs would do their research. for a holiday.

Thank you, Mary, for your comments and information about the clover and shamrock. Since the cookie is cut out using a clover-shaped cookie cutter rather than a shamrock cookie cutter we have renamed this recipe to Lucky Cookie Cut-Outs. Your information was helpful. Thanks!

I’m planning the St. Patrick’s Day party for my daughter’s class. I can’t wait to make these..they will be a hit with the kids! I found some cello candy bags from Box and Wrap that have shamrocks on the bags….so cute. It’s the extra special touches that make the party great. Thanks so much for the recipe.
