Ingredients

1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1 (8-ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained, reserve juice
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter
1 1/2 pounds round steak, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces, trimmed
1 cup baby-cut carrots, halved crosswise
1 large (1 cup) onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons cold water
1 large (2 cups) green bell pepper, cut into bite-sized pieces
Hot cooked rice, if desired
Green onion slices, if desired

Directions

Combine brown sugar, vinegar, reserved pineapple juice, soy sauce and garlic in  bowl; stir until sugar is dissolved. Set aside.

Melt 1 tablespoon butter in 12-inch skillet until sizzling; add half of steak pieces. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 4-5 minutes or until browned. Place steak pieces in slow cooker. Repeat with remaining butter and steak pieces.

Add carrots and onion to slow cooker. Pour pineapple juice mixture over vegetables. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 5-7 hours, or on High heat setting 3-4 hours or until meat is tender.

Increase heat setting to High. Dissolve cornstarch in cold water in small bowl. Stir cornstarch mixture, pineapple chunks and green pepper into beef mixture. Cover; continue cooking 30 minutes or until green pepper is crisply tender and juices are thickened. Serve over hot cooked rice and garnish with green onions, if desired.

Recipe Tip

- Tougher, less expensive cuts of meat are perfect to use in the slow cooker. The slow cooking process breaks down tough connective tissue, making the meat tender. The tougher cuts are more flavorful than the more tender pieces, especially if browned first before adding to other ingredients. And the long cooking time brings out the full flavor of the less expensive cuts.

Recipe Comments & Reviews

Easy to make, even easier to eat. Accidentally added the corn starch right off the bat, and the recipe seemed to suffer no ill-effects. Served it with fried rice, and everybody ate it.
We love this recipe! The pineapple chunks are my husbands favorite part. This has become a staple at our house and we have it at least twice a month.
This recipie had the right balance of sweet and sour. The star of the Slow Cooker Hawaiian Beef is the pineapple. It is important to add the green pepper in the last half hour to get the firm tecture with the soft beef. We had this over rice. Awesome dish. I might try it with pork also.
We did not like this recipe at all. I am super sensitive to vinegar and so it just seemed to overpower the recipe for me and my family.
I used fresh pineapple good combination for beef to cook in - excellent over rice.
This beef was very good. My whole family loved it. I doubled it but found that the extra brow suger made it a little to sweet for me. Everyone else liked it. I will not double the brow suger next time. I will add broccoli at the end next time. Will be good with the carrots and peppers. Im sure this would work for pork aswell. Thank You Land of Lakes for a great recipe
What a wonderful and tasty meal! The blend of flavors stood up to one another. I served this to friends who thought the meal was just perfect! I followed the directions fairly closely, although I doubled everything and actually quadrupled the garlic and onions. Other then that, it was 'as the recipe says'. You will really enjoy the dish if you are a fan of sweet/savory and pineapples. Do give this one a try, you won't be sorry.
I have made this quite a few times. ALWAYS a hit...either for a family brunch or for coming home after a busy day. I usually serve with brown rice and a vinaigrette cucumber salad. Yum!!
Tasty, not too sweet or too tart. This is a great recipe to reheat, along with rice.
My kids loved this! I think next time I make this I will wait to put the onions in with the peppers. This meat was fallin' apart tender. Thanks for the recipe!
