A little magic with food color and cookie cutters make these Valentine cookies look marbled.
Combine sugar and butter in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add egg and orange juice; continue beating until well mixed. Add flour and baking powder; beat at low speed until well mixed.
Divide dough into fourths. Knead pink food color into 1 portion. Knead purple food color into second portion. Knead green food color into third portion.
Flatten each fourth into disk shape. Wrap in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate 2 hours or overnight until firm.
Heat oven to 375°F.
Use one-half of each dough disk (keeping remaining dough refrigerated); alternately place spoonfuls of doughs onto lightly floured surface to create marbled effect. Roll out dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with edible glitter, if desired. Bake 6-8 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough.

I used Wilton icing colors, and they taste good, but are not very pretty. Would Nancy C. be so kind as to let me know what brand colors she used? The pix are so beautiful!
These looked really pretty. Also alot of work for a sugar cookie, but I would make them again because of how vibrant they were. I used color gel instead of paste. The colors I used were Lt Pink, Dk Pink & Royal Purple. I thought the green might start to get muddy looking after awhile. But your prefrence. ;-)
These cookies are gooooood! I also made them using orange, brown, and yellow tinted dough and cut the cookies into leaf shapes for Thanksgiving.
these cookies are wonderful. they taste good, they look good, and they pack well as gifts for valentine's day
