Powdered Sugar Glaze

This almost translucent glaze firms up after standing and gives cut-out cookies a smooth glazed surface -- perfect for decorating cookies.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla, if desired
Food color, if desired

Directions

Combine powdered sugar, water, butter, corn syrup and vanilla in bowl; mix until powdered sugar is moistened. Beat at medium speed until smooth, adding additional water, if necessary, to reach desired spreading consistency. Tint with food color, if desired.

Glaze cooled cookies. Let stand 6 hours or overnight until firm.

Wonderful and very easy. Leaves a very pretty finish. It's thick enough to remind me of almost a frosting but it's not. Will be my only glaze recipe I use.
This recipe appeared in our newspaper in April 2003 I gave it a try and it's wonderful. It's the only glaze that I will use. The glaze is beautiful and dries hard enough to be able to package the cookies in cellophane.
This is an EXCELLENT glaze recipe. The glaze hardened to perfection...not hard as a brick, and not soft at all. The very sweet flavor complimented my cookies wonderfully. After debating over several recipes, this is the one I chose. I'm glad I did! It wil be my go-to glaze recipe. The first time I used the vanilla flavoring. Another time I might try the almond.
I have tried many glazes and this is by far everyone's favorite. Very easy to make. I would like to know how to store the unused portion. Way better than Royal Icing. I've used butter flavoring, vanilla and almond separately and the almond is the winner! Thank you.
