This scone is perfect when served with coffee on a weekend morning.
Heat oven to 375°F.
Combine flour, apricots, sugar, orange zest, baking powder, baking soda and salt in bowl. Cut in 1/4 cup cold butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Combine sour cream, egg, orange juice and 1 teaspoon almond flavoring in another bowl. Stir into flour mixture 1 minute or just until moistened. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead 5 to 8 times until smooth.
Pat dough to 7-inch circle on greased baking sheet. Score into 6 wedges; do not separate.
Bake 18-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 10 minutes.
Combine powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon butter, 1/8 teaspoon almond flavoring and enough milk for desired glazing consistency in bowl. Drizzle over warm scones.

My sister is married to an Englishman and I am always trying to find different scone recipes for them. I made The Apricot Scones for her birthday and they were a great success.
Again a great recipe from this website. They were moist and light, more like a heavy cake. I used dried cranberries which were wonderful. I also made them twice, I liked them better with 3 tbsp of orange juice concentrate instead of juice for a little more flavor and I only used 1/2 tsp of almond the second time which I also preferred. I ran out of sour cream and used yogurt which made no difference. I highly recommend these, they are not your typical dry flavorless scone.
APRICOT ORANGE SCONES - THIS RECIPE TOOK ME LESS THAN AN HOUR TO MAKE, BAKE,FROST AND CLEAN UP,THEY LOOK LIKE A PICTURE AND THE TASTE IS ABSOLUTLEY DELICIOUS. THIS WAS A DOUBLE RECIPE I MADE. WHAT I DID WAS BAKE BOTH AT SAME TIME, ONE I CUT IN 6'S AND OTHER I LEFT HOW RECIPE CALLED FOR AND BOTH CAME UP BEAUTIFUL. IF YOU LIKE SCONES, YOU WILL LOVE THIS ONE .LOOKS BETTER THAN BAKE SHOP.
