Decorate valentine heart-shaped brownies with a simple glaze and a variety of decorator sugars and sprinkles.
Heat oven to 350°F. Line 15x10x1-inch baking pan with heavy-duty aluminum foil, extending foil over edges. Spray foil with no-stick cooking spray.
Combine sugar, butter and cocoa in 3-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 5-8 minutes or until butter is melted.
Remove from heat. Cool 5 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add vanilla, baking powder and baking soda; mix well. Alternately add flour and buttermilk, mixing well after each addition.
Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake 20-22 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
Lift brownies from pan using foil ends. Cut-out brownies with 2 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter.
Combine powdered sugar, corn syrup, 1 teaspoon butter and enough milk for desired glazing consistency in medium bowl. Glaze top of each brownie heart, letting glaze drip down sides of brownie. Decorate with sprinkles, sugars, candies or edible glitter, if desired.
*Substitute 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice and enough milk to equal 1 cup; let stand 5 minutes.

Always a requested Recipe. Makes plenty of treats for adults and kids. I use a white chocolate ganache to frost the cutout brownies. I melt white chocolate chips and think them just a bit with butter and milk or cream. It adds suce a decadent touch. Holiday themed sprinkles add a fun finishing touch or a light drizzle of chocolate adds a touch of elegance.
Ii've made this recipe several times and it's always fun to give. I usually double or triple it and give it to many on Valentine's day. I now use a prepared chocolate or vanilla glaze and then use chocolate or multicolor sprinkles. The brownies are very tasty...thanks to the buttermilk, they are moist and tender.
Wanted to send valentines to grandkids across the country. Found this recipe on-line, and they turned out very flavorful, very pretty- plump cake-like brownies. These would be good for a group of young people to decorate. And the shape/cookie-cutter/imagination determines how else this recipe might be presented. Absolutely delish! This year, my grandson Clark is 3 years old, so I wanted to make some cookies that he would love to eat and would find to be fun, too. These adorable Powdered Sugar Snowmen Cookies are just the ticket.
Chocolate’s complex flavor brings out the sweetness and tanginess of fruit, mellows the heat of peppers, and comes alive when introduced to a little bit of salt. The real question should be, “What can’t you dip in chocolate?” More ...
